How quickly, and relatively easily, the earth plunged into a mini-ice age, simply from volcanic activity, if this is true. Puts some perspective on the global warming debate, doesn't it?

Nothing new here, the Volcanic activity makes sense. All that ash and poisonous gases shot up into the atmosphere would certainly shield the Earth from sunlight. It's the same theory as to why the Dinosaurs were killed by an asteroid (All the smoke and debris into the atmosphere cut off the sun leading to the Ice Age and killing off all the animals and plants). Same theory for Nuclear Winter as well.

Year without a summer (due to primarily Volcanic Activity):

Also more recently (maybe Mount Saint Helens?) there was snow in July in parts of the country and frost in the NYC area I believe.
