I know of at least 2 locations in our area that had the coldest February since records started. One is Islip and the other is Kennedy Airport which averaged 24.5 beating the old record of 25.

Just checked the stats from Brookhaven National Labs in Upton Long Island. It was the coldest February on record and missed matching the coldest month ever by 1 tenth of a degree. February average was 19.6.

Looking at the NJ climate data published by Rutgers:

http://climate.rutge...th_temp_dep.JPG

That is one long blue bar, extending downward, close to a -12F departure for February, based on the 1981-2010 averages.
I've never seen a departure that far off - up or down. Rutgers lists it as the 3rd coldest February, dating back to 1895.

Also of note, it was slightly drier than normal. Makes sense, given that we had a few moderate snowfalls, and no rainfall that I am aware of.
