Freezing line stays near NYC the whole time on the Nam.

Models have accumulating snow for the interior and snow to rain for the coast.

12z models continue theme of accumulating snows well north west going over to a slop fest and then rain. Coast starts off as a snow/ sleet mix with a relatively quick change to rain. Further out on LI and down on the Jersey Shore this should be pretty much all rain.

Mets - That high sitting over New England will be providing the low level cold air for this thing. It will depend on how quickly the mid-levels warm up.

Agree but I think the warming will actually flood the areas near the coast but not after some mess.

Ahh the dreaded coastal changeover. Hated that when I lived in Queens.

Looking at Tropical Tidbits, the GFS is off the coast with a low (good for snow) but then it has the low over southeast NJ. The Euro has the low on Friday over south Jersey. Those last 2 scenarios are not good for snow except for well inland. Are you hoping for an initial accumulating snow that changes over, inland. Near the coast it looks like mostly rain.

I am thinking it will no big deal for NYC metro. But still a November snowfall in NYC is impressive, does not happen often.

You would see that low stratus deck come whipping in off the ocean when the wind direction ranged from SSW to SE to E and you knew you were done. I referred to them as the clouds of doom when it snowed. Where I am now we change over due to synoptic scale warming. I hardly ever see low stratus decks with these synoptic scale events now.

Nice set-up synoptically for so early in the season. Higher elevations will do best with this event where a solid 4-6" snowfall is likely; possibly more in a few spots. NYC and the coast will mix but even here 1-2" of slushy accumulations seems a good bet, which is still impressive for the calendar.

Bro, that was the story of my entire childhood growing up in the Bronx. Winter sucked in the 80's.
I'm poised to get some accumulating snow up here in Dutchess, maybe the 80's pattern will return and the interior will get the big snows once again. That would make my kids pretty happy.

Nam is a quick hitter

Temps in the upper 20s and lower 30s with snow to mix for the coast

It shuts off after the mix so barely any rain.
