You guys are in for a heck of a storm. Classic tropical cyclone signature on radar, expected to strengthen further tomorrow, and projected track dead center over NY metro.

We definitely need the rain. Not just a brief downpour from a thunderstorm but a good soaker. Will be beneficial. Just hoping for minimal damage from wind and storm surge.

Wondering if most of the heaviest rains will be over NJ since the cyclone is expected to pass directly over NYC.

It looks like NJ may get the heaviest rain and Long Island will get the strongest wind. All areas should get a good amount of rain. Possibly some severe weather, especially east of the center over Long Island and Ct.

We need a good soaking rain here.

Definitely. Lawns look terrible around here and it’s so dry. I’ve been concerned about brush fires. Maybe a good deluge will help in that regard.

Boy this one snuck up, I guess things are very disruptive right now with the pandemic, and on a personal level, moving. Wake up, and you've got a tropical storm heading your way. The rain up here is needed, although I hope we don't end up with inches upon inches in a short amount of time that causes serious problems.

The ground is thirsty, should soak up most of the rain.

Seeing a circulation offshore is amazing this far north even if its a weak one.

We are lucky this didn't gain strength further south before coming north with the warm waters.

This is only the beginning because the tropics is going to start getting really busy as we head into August.

Everything is still pretty green here however it's gotten pretty dry over the last 10 days or so. Hoping for a storm later so I don't have to water. Only got a few drops from the tropical system that's now Fay.

11:00 AM update - sustained winds now up to 60 mph. More strengthening is possible. This could turn into a surprise minimal hurricane.

If that is the case, Nassau County and western Suffolk could receive some of the highest winds.

Amazing that this is largely a surprise storm. Add to that what's in a name? Add just another 14 mph and this becomes an official hurricane. The media coverage would then go nuts.

Have to think it would be getting more press in a normal year, especially given this area’s Sandy experience. The virus is overshadowing a lot of things. Won’t be much variety to those “year in review” specials come December.
