When was the last time the NAO, AO, PNA and EPO were favorable? That is what the models are suggesting as we head into mid to late January with plenty of chances of snow and very cold air.

PNA positive
EPO negative

A positive PNA builds a ridge in the west which builds cold air in the east especially with a negative epo.

Ok because the PNA has been positive for a while now. NAO went negative about a week ago. EPO must be the issue.

There is noise in some of the models for an event next week. Ensembles are not to enthusiastic about this at this time but it is something to watch.

Saw a lot of riff raff about a blowtorch January circulating on Facebook. Temperatures for the next 10 days look about average for my area for this time of year.

Looks pretty quiet to me outside of something on the small side. Definitely colder. Kind of boring January. For now, winter is more interesting across the south LOL. NC mountains doing pretty well pushing 40" on the season so far.

is anyone saying there could be a coastal forming on the arctic front coming through Friday? The 6Z looks that way.

Too late on the latest GFS though a series of Miller A's or coastals may follow starting on 1/18-19.
