Just from reading the description on the weather channel for the midwest and saying its gonna stay cold in northeast, I foresee a semi-major event. IE, I see parts of NY getting a foot, and not way upstate, central to lower NY. This is the setup we need. West to East, not south and up coast. Robbs, Ice, storm, Your ideas?

What are the lower and upper limits for the city at this point - could this be a 6-12" event or are we looking for 2-4" at best? Just wondering about the possibilities.

Hey guys,
Just a quick question. Always been a fan of weather, but I have a hard time following all of the lingo that you guys use on this site. Are there any good books that can help me understand more of the technical jargon that you guys use?
Regards,
P.S. great site

If you haven’t seen it we have a Weather Glossary at the top of this page, it has all the words we may use while discussing the weather-- Heres the page---http://nycmetroweath...php?topic=909.0

Ask any silly questions you might have. Thats how must of us learned (not that I know too much) I use to just start an off topic thread labeled - another dumb question- thats how I learned.

Virga, what makes you think this? Just wondering. I haven't actually bought that much into any storm except this past one a week ago. I think this one has good potential just reading the descriptions. It's coming west to east. It isn't totally dependent on a low forming off the coast and then coming up the coast. We have been having trouble with these storms because the warm air has been drawn in too quickly aloft. That doesnt look like a factor here, I think. Just my very not expert opinion. I say minimum of 6 inches is very possible for Dutchess County area.
