...A WINTER STORM THREAT INCREASING FOR SUNDAY AFTERNOON INTO MONDAY
MORNING...
LOW PRESSURE WILL ORGANIZE ACROSS THE CENTRAL PART OF THE COUNTRY
TONIGHT INTO SATURDAY. AS THIS STORM MOVES TOWARD THE GREAT LAKES
AND OHIO VALLEY LATER TONIGHT AND SATURDAY, IT WILL INTENSIFY FOR A
TIME. MEANWHILE, HIGH PRESSURE WILL BE CENTERED TO OUR NORTH,
ALLOWING COLDER AIR TO REMAIN ACROSS OUR REGION. AS LOW PRESSURE
APPROACHES ON SUNDAY, MOISTURE IS EXPECTED TO OVERSPREAD THE REGION
FROM SOUTHWEST TO NORTHEAST STARTING AROUND MIDDAY SUNDAY.
ANOTHER LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS FORECAST TO DEVELOP NEAR THE MID
ATLANTIC COAST LATE SUNDAY, KEEPING MOISTURE ACROSS OUR REGION
SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY.
THE EXACT TRACK OF THE COASTAL STORM WILL IMPACT HOW MUCH MOISTURE
ACTUALLY FALLS ACROSS OUR AREA, AND ALSO THE EXTENT OF WARMING
TEMPERATURES. WHILE THERE IS STILL SOME UNCERTAINTY INVOLVED, IT
STRONGLY APPEARS THAT A GOOD PORTION OF OUR REGION WILL SEE ANOTHER
ROUND OF ACCUMULATING SNOW AND SLEET. WITH MILDER AIR PUSHING IN
ABOVE THE SURFACE LATE SUNDAY, FREEZING RAIN WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS
SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA, PORTIONS OF NORTHEASTERN MARYLAND AND
CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY. IF ENOUGH WARMER AIR WORKS INLAND,
THE MIXED PRECIPITATION WILL THEN TURN TO PLAIN RAIN FOR SOME AREAS.
AT THIS TIME, AREAS WITH THE HIGHEST POTENTIAL FOR ACCUMULATING SNOW
AND SLEET ARE ALONG AND TO THE NORTH AND WEST OF THE INTERSTATE 95
CORRIDOR.
BECAUSE THE EXACT LOCATION OF WHERE THE COASTAL STORM FORMS IS STILL
A BIT UNCERTAIN, IT IS STILL TOO EARLY TO PINPOINT ACCUMULATIONS.
HOWEVER, A PLOWABLE SNOW AND SLEET EVENT APPEARS TO BE INCREASING
FOR AREAS NORTH AND WEST OF THE INTERSTATE 95 CORRIDOR, WITH A
LIGHT COATING OF ICE POSSIBLE AS WELL. AS A RESULT OF THIS, TRAVEL
COULD BECOME HAZARDOUS DURING THE SECOND HALF OF THE WEEKEND AND
INTO MONDAY MORNING.
STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO ALL HAZARDS AND YOUR LOCAL MEDIA
OUTLETS FOR THE LATEST UPDATES ON THIS DEVELOPING WINTER STORM. A
WINTER STORM WATCH MAY BE ISSUED FOR PARTS OF THE AREA DURING THE
NEXT 24 HOURS.

Yeah, how about we all just sit back, say nothing and let this baby unfold on it's own. It seems the more attention we give these storms, the more they peeter out.

That's my exact superstition! Everytime I start to check out each newscast and weather report, we seem to lose the storm. If I just lay low and don't talk about it or pay too much attention to it, we seem to get it. It's almost like a pitcher throwing a no-hitter. If you talk about it, you jinx it.

Sorry guys,
I may be new here, but the thought of an impending snow storm immediately causes me to start asking the same question over and over again. How much and where? But in the interest of not annoying the snow g-ds I will refrain.

FWIW,
18Z GFS depicts a mostly snow/ some sleet scenario for NYC. Per soundings, everyone from Monmouth county northward never gets above freezing at the surface again. Valentine's Day redux? Probably not with the widespread freezing rain -- but we could be looking at yet another sleet storm for many folks along the I-95 corridor PHL to TTN and BLM. NW NJ is all snow on the 18z GFS -- would be at least 4-6". This is just model interpretation folks -- I'm not forecasting anything yet.

Soundings look great for NYC northwestward in terms of snow -- now we just need consistency for another 48 hours or so. Central NJ is snow to sleet to freezing rain then back to snow. Southern NJ is snow/sleet quickly over to plain rain. Long Island a bit warmer than KNYC per LGA sounding; but still no rain in sight with this system. I'll stick with my original idea a few days ago of this being all frozen pcpn for everyone north of 195 in central NJ.

Difficult to say right now. Any slight trend to the south in terms of coastal low track and it's all snow for Middlesex and Monmouth counties. Per the latest data it's a snow to sleet storm for central New Jersey; mainly SN NYC northwestward. Once again, time for trending over the next 48hrs. Primary point here is a winter storm becoming more likely. More details as we approach Sunday.
