Good morning... :)

Not a whole lot to talk about for today and tonight as relatively tranquil, though windy, conditions prevail today. High pressure over eastern Canada will keep the region on the chilly side, with afternoon temperatures in the 30s. When you factor in the winds, it will feel like its only in the teens to lower 20s despite plenty of sunshine. The upper-level ridge of high pressure ahead of our storm will move over the area tonight, so winds should slacken over night, though it will remain quite chilly.

Then the fun begins for Sunday and Sunday night.

A storm system will move out of the central Plains today, moving into central/northern Illinois by tomorrow afternoon. Severe thunderstorms will rumble across the South today and tonight, with heavy snow (even blizzard conditions) north and west of the center of low pressure!

During the day Sunday, this storm will start to split into two pieces; the one heading toward the Great Lakes, and the other heading toward the East coast, with a second area of low pressure developing near the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay late Sunday or Sunday night. This is the primary low that will affect our weather tomorrow and tomorrow night. Clouds will build across the area tomorrow, and with surface temps (and those aloft) marginally cold enough, precip will likely start as snow or a snow/sleet mixture in the city.

Precip overnight will play tricks with us overnight and frozen precip will likely change over to rain at the Jersey coast, probably stays a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and maybe even rain across much of the Tri-State area, with some accumulating snow/sleet north and west of the city. This storm will head out to sea Monday morning, so the precip will likely draw to an end during the morning hours, with a messy morning commute for all!

However, with that other storm spinning over the Lakes, it will slowly drift eastward, carving out a large upper-level trough over the area, bringing with it a pool of cold air aloft. With this, it will remain unsettled during the rest of the day Monday, so we need to allow for a rain/snow shower or two across the area anytime, but there will likely be some breaks in the precip (in other words, it won't be precipitating all day).

This upper level trough/pool of cold air aloft will linger across the area Tuesday, but that surface storm will likely be weakening. All this means is it will likely be a dry and mostly cloudy day, though there might be a rain/snow shower in a few spots as it will still remain unsettled.

Dry, tranquil, more seasonable weather will return for the middle of the week as high pressure ridges over the eastern states. Skies will generally be partly sunny, with temperatures close to normal. But lets not let our guard down. Another storm system looks to take aim for our region by the end of the week into next weekend (though it looks like a milder storm at this point). ???

Take it to the bank this is not a good size snow storm for most of the area - so snow crowd lets not hype it - it will be a mess and a dangerous one on Monday but for most areas it does not look like it will be a significant snow....

Thanks, Summer, for stating the obvious with the usual negativity.

Your posts suck the fun out of an already miserable winter.  We all know this is not a major storm, but it would be nice to have some fun with it.... :(

sorry guys,
6-12 inches within 50 miles of nyc with greater amouts south and east of the city
everyone feel better... positive enough for all of you

I notice it is the same crowd of narrow minded posters that usually attack me and never admit any error in their own posts
But I take the high road so I will refrain from any negative posts about this storm through Monday.. you guys win and only want the party line much the same as other weather boards with the snow obsession crowd of posters... Diversity and difference are shouted down

You are definitely one of those 'friends' everyone calls when they want to go out and have a good time.

summer, all people are doing is having a little fun tracking the storm for sunday, but you continuously try to throw in a negative comment every single thread. yes, the mets are downplaying the event, but they weren't even close to being right with the last storm as i got about 3-4 inches of sleet here in monmouth. i'll take my chances with storm, ice, robbs because they are truthful and accurate in regards predicting the weather
