Have seen too many of them outside and several have gotten in the house. Exterminator came over once already and is coming back tomorrow. They are expecting one of the worst seasons ever because of the moisture soaked soil, high water tables and lack of frozen ground because of the deep snows that protected the soil so much this winter. If you see winged ants it means you'll have a major problem soon. Also, didn't know this till yesterday but ants, particularly carpenter ants, are far more likely to be found on the sunny side of your home than the shady side. So check and treat your south and west exposures the most. For me my whole west exposure is the garage so I catch a break there as they have no soil.

On another note we had our water softener guy over right after the last heavy rains and the ph in the water was sky high. High PH is dangerous for your pipes. His thought was the condition was due to the high water tables and recent rains. He was right. This week I tested the water and it was normal thanks to the spell of dry weather allowing the water table to go down. If you have a pool kit you may want to test your PH. You do it the same as you do it for your pool.
