News Corporation has been running ads stating that Cablevision was in need to renegociate their contract. As of 12am, Oct. 16, Fox 5 and my 9 have been pulled by News Corporation from Cablevision.

That is pathetic. They will pay for it big time esp with baseball and football on now. People won't forget or forgive this time imo.

Pretty remarkable. Remember last year's Academy Awards show whiich was off cable for the first hour? I have Directv satellite at home so not affected. However, the tv in our library room has cable and it's amazing to not have channels 5 and 9, along with other Fox channels. Incredible that this cannot be avoided, regadless of the merits of either side's dispute. I'll take satellite over cable any time, not only due to this nonsense, but video quality is also better IMO.

It will be back, just as ABC came back.

Anyone notice that the Fox News Channel is still on? Must be quite a Conservative influence at work over there..........

You have to wonder about Cablevision. This is the 3rd time they've had a run-in with a network this year over programming fees. They seem to be the common denominator here. Are they low-balling networks in terms of their subscrption fees when compared to what other cable providers pay?

The cynical side of me thought the same thing. It could also be that Fox News is part of a separate agreement because it's a cable network, not an over-the-air station. What about FX? Who owns that network?

Sure, contract negotiations get rough... that's understandable. But for this to be happening regularly at this point is absurd. It's all about people in power wanting to stand their ground and make a statement in doing so.

Thankfully, I have FiOS which has thus far been great.

When i move on Dec. 1 i will be back to Cablevision. Not happy about it but at least it's not now. I believe in this case though it's Fox who is at fault.

I have Directv so I really don't have a horse in this race. I haven't had the time nor interest to read through the issue details and dispute points. However, one thing does jump out in all this -- This is the second time that Cablevision has had the plug pulled on it recently by a network over a dispute, and it's a different network this time around. Further, other cable companies are operating without incident. That leads me to suspect that Cablevision is doing something incorrectly. No way a dispute should get to the point that the network walks away, and now for a second time by a second network in less than a year? Regardless of the reason(s), I wouldn't put up with that and be shopping my tv service elsewhere given a choice.

From what? There's nothing worse than Cablevision.

I heard the Cablevision guy on Francesa's NFL Now show this weekend and what he said was pure BS. He's complaining that the networks are squuezing Cablevision because their advertising rates keep dropping and they look to the dstribution channel to make up for it. Well I'm in the business and network ad rates are up 25% this year and looking to go up another significant amount next year. What's happened here is that networks have finally figured out that distributors need their product to have a business. Take out the big networks and would you pay basic cables rates? Cable though charges us as if they were already paying what Fox is asking for and then some. They have had a bonanza for years by building a business off networks with almost no expenses, just like advertisers had a bonanza in the 1960's and 70's for reaching households with 30-35 ratings points cheaply. In todays TV market the top shows are 8-14 ratings. In the 70's ABC cancelled "The Odd Couple" with a 23 rating. Back to Cablevision, they are a monopoly and they are finding out that they can't treat content providers the way they treat their customers.

With DirectV I upgraded for $125 and have an HD DVR that gets 250-300 hours. Not all HD is recorded equally. Pure Network HD (on DirectV network shows are on a few different stations - local and national) on national channels uses up more memory than on the local network stations.

Does Fios have the sunday ticket or is that still a Directv exclusibe? Fios can only match or beat Dish or Directv's image if it comes all the way to the box. Folks that have it only to the street are not as happy as they were with Cable's pix quality. Cable pix quality and sound can't touch satellite.
