...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM EST MONDAY...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STERLING VIRGINIA HAS ISSUED A
WINTER STORM WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM EST MONDAY.
THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.
PERIODS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW WILL CONTINUE THIS AFTERNOON AS
LOW PRESSURE BEGINS TO DEVELOP NEAR THE DELMARVA.
TOTAL SNOWFALL WILL BE 4 TO 8 INCHES BY THE TIME THE SNOW ENDS
EARLY THIS EVENING...EXCEPT IN WASHINGTON DC WHERE SNOWFALL WILL
BE 3 TO 6 INCHES. THERE WILL ALSO BE A CHANCE OF LIGHT FREEZING
RAIN THIS EVENING UNTIL ABOUT MIDNIGHT.
A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW...
SLEET...AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO
POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.

A word of caution on the DC situation -- the further from the source of energy in the midwest, precip intensities could lighten, and 2) DC sits further west from NYC and they "may" be benefitting from the west to east factor of the snow/mix line. Not saying that snow in DC is not a good sign, but I would caution using them as a benchmark for what's in store for us. Radar nowcasts will be key now to see if the precip intensities hold up on their way northeast.

Robbbs - It's going to depend on the exact track of the coastal. That heaviest precip looks like it's staying more south than model data implies. I'm wonderring if the DC surprise is an indication that the coastal may be a bit more SE than progged. BTW Baltimore has upped their amounts to 5-10"!!
