Hi -

I guess I posted this question in the wrong sub-forum, it's a question about the North Carolina landfall of Irene.

I'm very concerned for my elderly parents who live in New Bern, NC - they are not in a low lying area, so flooding isn't a worry, it's the winds.

What should it be like for them, they are just east of the eye? How big has the eye been? How big is the eye wall?

I was unable to get them to leave the house and head west - nobody they know are leaving their homes. I want to know what they are facing, though.

I offered to fly down there and do the driving, but my Dad (who is not himself anymore at 85) seems to think everything will be fine. Mom will go along with whatever he says. But, I'm starting to get really worried about them being in harms way. So, how bad will the winds be for their location (New Bern) with the eye passing so close to them?

Thank you,
Denise

Being that they are inland, I would say probably 60-80 mph winds maybe a couple gusts to 90 mph, but flooding would be huge concern, so if they live near a river make sure they know what to do.
