Models have been pretty consistant last couple of days for a significant rain event for our area in the Thuraday thru Saturday time period. Latest Nam shows totals of 3 inches plus for parts of the area with the GFS showing less than that but still significant. Will have to see where the heaviest axis sets up. Gfs also shows the threat extending into early next week with widespread 3 in. plus totals.

Hasn't really rained much in a while here and my lawn is in great shape now but hardly all that moist underneath. Just some light rain since the departure of Irene so I'd expect most areas to be able to handle the rain. But a ULL pulling up trop moisture off the Atlantic can easily lead to higher than modelled rain amounts so it's the second batch on Friday that really has to be monitored in the flood zones. Found out that many basements in the Colts Neck to Howell area got badly flooded during Irene and with no power to sump pumps the water stayed for days on end. Many areas of Monmouth had 10-12" of ran from Irene..

Looks like round 1 of a multi-round rain event is on course based on radar, perhaps getting in a bit earlier than forecast. I'd estimate that by mid or late morning we'll be in the steady rain and then get heavy this pm.

Steady tropical downpours here for awhile now - I'd say 2" + an hour in the heavier downpours and 1-2" at other times, so anyone in flood prone areas monitor the radars closely. The very heavy rains just exploded with little warning.

I'm hoping the rain stays away. I am going to Wildwood for the weekend.

Was in Manhattan today and it was a tropical downpour for about 2 hours, from 1130am till about 130pm, CP verifies at 2.39" there. Got home to only about .50" here.

That band hit here and then hugged the coast up thru NYC and then weakened. That rain was the equivalent of heavy T-storm rain that was almost continuous for two hours rather than 10-15 minutes. Similar batch is now coming up through Atlantic City. Looks like bigger rains for the coast than inland again.
