Annual record rainfall total from 1983 was disputed due to a possible equipment malfunction. I wonder what surrounding areas got that year in terms of rainfall, LGA JFK, and Newark.

This public information statement from NOAA confirms that 1983 was indeed the year with the most precipitation:

While I don't know the precipitation numbers from JFK, LGA, or Newark, the totals from these sites were high enough to confirm the Central Park record.

58" in CNJ. Impressive, about +12" off the normal, but nowhere near as much as NNJ.

It was regardless an amazing year of weather that brought major snow storms, a hurricane (even though it was a tropical storm by the time it came into the NYC area), and floods. I'm amazed that any year would have more precipitation than last year.

Wow. How many years of record do you have lab and what is your yearly avg. before this year?
This is the first year with the 4" tube. Before I was missing most of the snow. But the places around here (including 2 Resivoirs) avg about 53" give or take an inch

Just got a email from the Office of the NJ State Climatologist. They want some photos of my rain gaige and my records since I recorded a new recored precip for the year. I think there were 2 others that passed it (and me by a little)

As you may be aware, 2011 was a record wet year in NJ (preliminarily 64.87" fell statewide based on an average of many stations). On an individual station basis, the current-standing calendar year record is 85.99" in Paterson during 1882. It happens that the 2011 precipitation total from your CoCoRaHS station of 87.93" exceeds this long-established record! Therefore, we hope you can provide some more information about your reports and your station. This will be used by a national committee that is being convened to determine whether a new precipitation record will be officially designated in NJ. Here's what we're interested in:

Both in West Milford (not my station), and I believe the highest came in at 90.65" for the year which would be the established record. I would imagine they'll go through the same review process you're going through to ascertain validity before anything is made official.
