I don't think DT did too well on this forecast. They got sparingly little down there (his C and D sections), rain to a few flakes.

Latest NOAA Climate Prediction Center outlook issued today. Note that this is for the period of February 10 to 18, which was supposed to be the worst cold outbreak for us according to some. NOAA says above average.

06z GFS stays the course. Mild week coming up, then a cold weekend. The cold outbreak is short lived and the following week is seasonal to mild until another transient shot of cold toward the end of the second week. Shows no significant snows for the next two weeks and the biggest precip maker is rain. Obviously, it can all change but that's what it shows verbatim on this run.

The real good news story about this February is the rain in Texas, and lots of it in those drought stricken areas.

Sunny in the low 50s today and tomorrow.
A weak impulse passing through on Wedn. may give us some light rain, or a bit of wet snow, especially north.
S'bout it.

Almost a quarter of the way through February already. The winter is really flying by and we're running out of time. Might just have to write this off as a bad year for snow-lovers. Can't really complain after the previous two, however.

That and lack of snow cover may well lead to models overstating cold airmasses. It wouldn't matter in a snowstorm situation but it will likely cause ground temps to be a little milder than progged in a real cold outbreak.

As far as I'm concerned that's already the case. We've gone such long stretches without snow cover (even far NW burbs) and dominating mild temps in the most important days of winter that even a 2' snowstorm can't save this winter.

6Z GFS is Metfan's dream run though of course all the fireworks come after 240 hours with truncated data. That and of course there's no hint of anything like that developing on the Euro. Euro is more of the same at 240 hours - trough on the west coast, cut-off storm in the midwest, raging warmth in the east, no blocking.

The 12z GFS shows a great chance for snow. Too bad its in the 300+ time frame, and is preceded by a huge warmup and a ton of rain.
