Don't be surprised if this storm ends up being 3-6" or 4-8" of sleet, rather than snow and sleet combined. It's certainly a possibility. Snow line hasn't made much progress south over the past couple hours, but as the low intensifies there should be a change to all snow for 4-6 hours prior to the transition back to sleet later in the evening. Complex situation here.

I honestly don't have a clue (and I don't think the NWS does either). My instincts tell me that this should turn to sleet for most. The wild card is when the low gets cranking. Will it hug the coast and bring the upper air warming and confirm the sleet/ice (probably), or will it be just offshore and maybe pull in just enough cold air aloft to go back to snow? Either way, surface temps will remain below freezing for 90% of our region so a real mess.

Actually, we've been under an intense band for the last half hour -- I measured just under 5" here now and it's white out conditions. Temp is 23.0.

robbs- i am in kinnelon...we have around 4.5 so far...i know range has us in 8-12". Do you think sleet will hit us? If so, we will knock the totals down. My guess is 11" total.

My instincts tell me we'll go to sleet but it's really a guess. If it doesn't, totals will go through the roof.
