They seemed to have arrived. I had a high of 86, most coastal areas around the mid 80s while inland temps approach 90. Humidity was lower today making it bearable.

When I was in Farmingdale today they had a high of 89.6 degrees. Weatherbowl I have a feeling your area hit 90 weather or not your weather station indicated that or not

Nice, you have a weather station out in that area. I guess you have one at home also. I have a few myself and would like to get rid of one if anyone is interested. As far as todays high I really do not think it was that warm today, not on the Island. Local weather stations like the ones we have can vary quite a bit depending on where we locate them. I try and check mine with other local stations and official stations like Farmingdale Airport. I have moved mine so many times to try and get the right combination of sun and shade and distance from concrete and so on. Sometimes it isn't easy.

Don't know if clouds held down temps in Nassau Co but I was in Splish Splash all day out @ the end of the LIE and we had nothing but brilliant sunshine, I don't remember the sun being blocked by any clouds @ all the whole day....really nice day out there...pine barrens are doing well :)
High in Queens reads 89.5

Both GFS and Euro showing signs of serious, near 100 heat next week. Today's pattern set-up looks ripe for it to happen perhaps all the way to southern Maine. We'll see.

It does seem the Island was closer to inland areas today than on most days. I checked some other temps and noticed Kennedy hit 88. I think it is safe to say that most areas both at the coast and inland had highs between 85-90.

Agree - it was a very uniform day as seabreezes were surpressed. Tomorrow and Thursday will show a greater disparity between the coast and just inland.

We continue to be in agreement on the evolution of this summer, Ice. At the very least, mid to upper 90's are possible sometime next week (comparable to heat spells in the summers of 1988 and 1995). Until that time, we're 90F+ every day beginning tomorrow (August 1st). I believe Aug's positive departures will be sufficient to bump the overall meteorological summer departure (June-July-August) into my +1 to +3 range. July numbers come in tomorrow, but I'd estimate around 0 (normal) for the summer thus far.

Hotter today than I expected. Already 91.3 here. Friday may hit 96 and early next week the GFS has a 582 thickness line north of us. Folks - that is 100 degrees and heat looks very dominant for a long run with minimal interruptions.

88.6F here with winds dead calm. The month of August, at least the first half, looks torrid as we've been expecting. Good news for cool weather lovers is we're already into August, so the hot temps can't last more than two months. Similar to last winter - the cold wx didn't begin until late January, so we really had a 1-2 month winter. There have been plenty of summers with blowtorch heat from early June right through September (1990 good example; 1995 another).
BTW, here's some data from my weather station for July 2007:
Mean max: 83.1F
Mean min: 64.2F
Mean temp: 73.7F
Departure from average: -1.3F
Other area departures:
Newark NJ: -1.3F
Trenton NJ: -1.4F
Don't care about Central Park or LI as the above two depatures (IMO) represent the region's temps the best.
Back to my location:
High: 95.2F (9th)
Low: 51.1F (3rd)
Highs:
90s: 4
80s: 21
70s: 6
Lows:
70s: 7
60s: 18
50s: 6
Lowest max temp: 70.8F (23rd)
Highest min temp: 73.0F (10th)
HDD's: 14.4
CDD's: 284.2
