Yes, I believe water temps along the jersey shore and south facing shores on Long Island have very warm waters

MARFC obs for rivers: http://www.erh.noaa....ps/water_temps/
Went down to Jones/Lido/Nassau Beaches. It isn't Florida water but you can walk right in. It's great; hope it lasts.

Makes sense. With last year's relatively mild winter (aside from February and early March) the water never really got cold. This would allow any potential hurricanes to at least maintain some of their strength in the event a storm headed in this direction. Are the other conditions favorable for hurricanes this season? Is the weak Nina downplaying this threat?

When the water gets too warm, those dangerous animals start coming up north. Ie) Sharks. Dolphins are friendly.

Exactly. Remember when those dolphins were found in Long Island Sound earlier this year?

I don't mind Dolphins, they are friendly. But when the come up here they get lost, and die. I don't like going to the beaches here since they are dirty and you can't see under the water. I be worried about what sees me, and I don't see it.

Water temps last winter (whether wamr or cold) really have little if any bearing on what you see now. Some of the warmest waters I remember were summer 1995 and we know what type of winter followed. Some of the coolest summer ocean temps were preceeded by warm winters. Water temps are very dependent on surface winds. SSE winds will bring you warm water as the offshore surface water (which is always warmer than immediate shore waters) is pushed to the coast. West winds will push the top warm layer of water offshore and the colder deeper water replaces it (upwelling). This is the real driver. Once I saw that trop front last week with pesristent SSE winds on the oceanfront I thought ocean temps would move up fast this week and I think I posted it in one of the threads.
