Nice game by Mussina. He went 8 straight innings. He started to struggle in the 8th, so Vizcaino had to come in with 1 out.
Giambi hit a solo-HR.
Arod hit two 2-run HRs. Yankees scored 7 runs in the top 2nd.
Yankees win 11 to 2. Yankees are still 5 games behind Boston, since Boston won.
Yankees are tied with Seattle for the Wild card.
Yankees record is 65-51 .560 5.0 back in the AL East. Currently, they have a better record than the Mets, which have 64-52 .552.

Doesn't mean nothing? Are you serious? We were almost 20 games back a few months ago, and now down by 5. Come on. Give the Yankees some credit. You do not know if they can't beat Boston. People were saying we couldn't beat Cleveland, and look, we took this series from them. True we still have to play Detroit, Toronto, and Boston again, but if the Yankees keep playing like they are doing now, they can win. You are just mad that the Yankees have a better record so far than the Mets.

Yankees easily could beat the Red Sox. They played well against them the last two times the they meet.
The team only that scares me are the Angels.

Lets just say of the two NY teams I think one of them has a good shot of winning the division and they don't play in the NL :P

Much of Boston's recent woes have stemmed from their bull-pen. While not exactly a collapse, their much touted relief pitchers have been average at best since the all star break. Whether this is a temporary slump or something more significant will be a huge factor as the season winds down.

The Mets are the cream of the National League and should take the division as well as the pennant. The Yanks put themselves into such a deep hole that it leaves no margin for error to take the division. One moderate losing streak and the Yanks could find themselves easily 8 to 10 games out of 1st. The wild card is an altogether different matter.

Any NY fan would say the Mets have a better shot @ winning the WS &/or Wild Card than the Yanks. We have been dominating the NL eventhough we have been sucking as of late. Sure the Yanks are catching up but IMO, they don't get far. Time will tell.

Poor choice of words. You mean any NY Mets fan would say the Mets have a better chance of winning World Series and/or Wild Card. A Yankees fan like me, would laugh in your face.

No. Excellent choice of words. It's fans like you and Jimrin who let their emotions cloud their judgement. The Mets are not going to have to work to win the WC or pennant, they have been in a slump for a few months yet still managed to hold 1st place. Bottom line is the NL sucks and the mets are going to waltz into the playoffs without a problem. The yanks, as robbbs said earlier, dug themselves a grave earlier in the season and now show signs of getting out of the hole. They have a long road ahead of them, and I just don't see them coming out on top. Has nothing to do with my Mets bias, it's just so obvious.
Let me re-phrase my earlier post Terry, "any NY fan who is not an emotional train wreck for any one particular team would realize this".

Hater. Believe what u want. Just cause Yankees were n a slump does not mean they can't come back and win. And dont say that since tha Mets were good the season thus far doesnt mean they cant go down the rest of the season. Use your head.

The Mets are far from dominating the NL. Last year probably yes, but this year no.

The Mets haven't dominated anything this year. They are almost in first by default, the national league is pretty weak. Not saying the yanks are anything special either though but right now you would have to give the yanks a bit of an edge head-to-head. Earlier in the year it would have been the other way around. Mets seem to be missing something this year. Maybe they'll turn it on later, but if I were a Mets fan, I'd be less and less optimistic of that happening with each passing day.

This year the Mets have the following record:
65 wins, 52 loses, .556 PCT.
Atlanta is right behind them this year with the following:
62 wins, 55 loses, .530 PCT.
http://mlb.mlb.com/m...sp?ymd=20060812
Last year on this date, the Mets had the following record:
70 wins, 45 loses, .609 PCT.
Atlanta last year at this same time was in 4th place:
53 wins, 62 loses, .461 PCT.
Sat and Game are right. The Mets aren't as strong this year as they were last year.
