I can't believe you are at 63, very raw and cold here at 40 and I am not that far away from you. Your gauge isn't by the barbque and you are grillin? :getlost:

I was doing laundry and at first I thought that might have been affecting my temp gauge (dryer output) but then I saw Andover was at 67. I am back down to 55 now.

I think talking about the specific temp gradients in a such a small geographic area warrants it's own thread. Thus, I made up it's own thread.

Someone brought this up on Bill's board and i posted this over there:

Funny you mention this. I was driving around morristown at about 4:45 and every window in the car fogged up on me INSTANTLY. I have never experienced anything like that and i really just dismissed it. It was just too weird to believe. I kind of just figured i didn't notice it earlier and blew it off. Now i know i wasn't seeing things!

Think of it this way -- your windows act as a condensation surface, similar to a can of coke as it's being taken out of the freezer. The atmosphere is initially saturated at 100% humidity -- temperatures were generally 40-45F prior to the sub-tropical frontal passage. Warmer air holds more water vapor; thus the moisture content of that airmass is greater at a higher temperature/dew point. What happens when you push a 50 degree air parcel into an atmosphere with already saturated conditions (100%) humidity? The moisture levels increase rapidly, resulting in an oversaturated/supersaturated environment for a temporary time -- that extra moisture is displaced and has nowhere to go, therefore it condenses into liquid form as water droplets on the nearest surface -- in this case your windows.

Same goes for the car. Nearly 100% humidity outside in relatively cool airmass. Once that warm fronts pushes through, moisture increases, air becomes oversaturated, condenses into fog.

Also remember the natural processes of precipitation development -- air parcel rises, cool, and condenses into clouds once it reaches 100% humidity. That's why out in the interior west you've got cloud bases with heights in excess of 10,000 feet. The lower levels of the atmosphere are so dry that it takes awhile for a particular parcel of air to reach saturation.
