I'm not under-estimating the Flyers. I don't think there is 1 dominant team in the east this year like Buffalo was last year. I give the Flyers a shot, with a win today they would get the 6 seed and play Washington. The Capitals are very beatable. Ill be at the Ranger-Devil game in Newark today, to see if the Rangers can get home ice, and the season sweep of the Devs. Trust me, the Flyer-Pens game today is HUGE. We played the 3 seed Atlanta last year, and they are similar to this years Caps.

I agree completely that is why i am so excited, and i would much rather face the Caps!! The penguins will be tough but we do have the talent to do it.
It was big beating the Devils the other night because they always seem to have our number so it was nice to see them get beaten.
The Rangers and Devils game might say alot who limps into the playoffs and who might surge.
We are at home and the place will be rocking!!!!!!!!!!!! just wish i could see it,but i will listen on internet.

You got it, Flyers vs. Caps. Are they gonna do that orange crush thing again like they did in '03-'04? Those fans are crazy anyway you cut it. I was a the game at the Ranger/Flyer game on 2/4/06 in Philly (the week before the big blizzard). Those are the craziest fans in the sports, let along the NHL. BTW- They show some games on versus, if you have it.

There are some awesome matchups in the East. Bruins/Canadiens is an old Original Six rivalry. This will be the 24th or 25th time that they've met in the postseason. Devils/Rangers is always fun. Penguins/Senators is a rematch from last year's playoffs. The Flyers will have their hands full with Ovechkin and the Capitals but I think they have a chance.

I will be out with my eastern conference preview sometime tommorow. I don't see too many 1 sided series. :sorcerer:
Now only if the rest of our country will give hockey the respect it deserves.

The game needs to be marketed more effectively. Gary Bettman is a terrible commissioner. Oh, well. Those who watch the game enjoy and appreciate it.

Good news, two of the 7 games will be on NBC, and 4 others will be on versus.

There is always an espn jerk that takes a shot at hockey whenever they can. Come'on, like the NBA even compares to the NHL. It kills me when people talk about the NBA over hockey. :sorcerer: ESPN has a bunch of stuck up jerks, that hurts the nhl's popularity. At least Mike Emmerick does a nice job calling the games, and Versus is finally in HD for this years playoffs.

Emrick is the best announcer in hockey, bar none. Devils fans are really lucky to have him as their play-by-play announcer.

The NBA isn't much better than the NHL in terms of ratings. They had their lowest-rated Finals ever last year. TV ratings in general are way down, especially for sporting events. I don't know why everyone picks on hockey in this department. There's just so much competition for people's entertainment and leisure time these days...hundreds of TV channels, DVD's, video games, downloading music, surfing the web (My Space, Facebook, You Tube, etc).

I would much rather watch college basketball over the NBA. So much more interesting and exciting to follow. I don't really see how people can get into the NBA at all.

You know something? I feel the same way and I used to love the NBA. Back in the mid-90's, I couldn't get enough of it. It just hasn't been the same since Michael Jordan retired.

The problem with the NBA is that these players are now spending either 1 year in college and then going pro, or skipping college all together. They dont devolop as well without college. I havent watched an NBA game since 1998. The NBA couldn't be more dead in the NYC area now. People think I dont like basketball just because I hate the nba, which isn't true. I love the NCAA tourney. Another problem is guys like Mike and the Mag Dog find a way to talk about golf over hockey. :sorcerer: I don't think there is anything more boring than watching golf on T.V. The nhl need a finals matchup like the NY rangers vs. Detriot. The good thing is that 4 big EC cities are represented in this years playoffs. (we need D.C., NY, Philly, or Boston to make a run) We can't afford another Canada vs. Southern u.s. matchup. Timing is also an issue with the NHL playoffs. A lot of times it goes up against baseball, nba, golf, or even the college baseball WS. People want to think warm weather in May and June, not hockey. :getlost: Even though Carolina vs. Edmonton was a great final, it lasted untill like the 20th of June. This is something positive though. ^_^

i was jus goin to post that article. Its really good now the NHL is gettin better. I jus really hope they can get it back on ESPN in next couple of years, that would help ratings, especially wit all the good young talent (Sidney Crosby, Evegni Malkin, Alex Ovechkin, Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and many more), ppl would maybe go watch them on national tv

cant wait for this series to start, im feeling confident in this ranger team, well balanced and energetic, especially the young guys. And Jagr is hot again, so watch out for him. The 7-1 record against the devils is deceiving, every single game was close, so whoever thinks it wil be a breeze for the rangers is dead wrong...LETS GO RANGERS

The day after the NCAA title game and the day before the nhl playoffs start as well as baseball season going on and the nfl approaching, both cbssports.com and espn.com have golf on as their top story! YUCK! Golf? I would rather watch grass grow! Not that I really care much about M+ the MD, but the rest of the radio sports show base their shows around them. And yet Fatso and Fruit loops continue to bore us to death with golf!!! BTW- It will be ANYTHING but an easy series for the Rangers. I picked the Devs in 7 due to their experience. But who knows, lets send the Devils back to Newark to look for new work! ;)

I don't know what to expect in this series. As a Devils fan, I'm worried because Lundqvist always plays well against them and the Devils can be so inconsistent on offense. However, they do have Brodeur, so he will give them a chance even if they're not scoring. I wouldn't be surprised if the series went six or seven games. I do think we're going to see at least one multiple-overtime game.

Lets both hope this series goes to 6 or 7. I was sitting right near the ice on Sunday and there was some great physical play by both teams. Tensions are always high, but I think the Devils have a mental edge with their experience and Broduer of course. The Rangers have struggled on the road this season (17-24), while the Devils have been solid at home (25-16). Lundqvist is a great goaile and I think the Devils will have trouble scoring on him. Parise and Drury are the key players in my mind. Zach Parise is an amazing player and the Rangers need to contain him to have a chance. The Rangers just cant seem to win a big road game, but I think their talent will take it to 6 or 7.
