I was wondering if the rain today is not going to happen anymore? It is sunny in Englewood, NJ (Bergen county). I am supposed to go to an event outdoors this evening but do not want to be stuck in the rain. Thank you for your help.

There could be a passing shower but i wouldn't cancel my plans. Any steady rain should hold off until late afternoon or this evening.

Rain threat today has been badly overstated. It was all predicated on the warm front being further south than it is. The warmfront is much closer to us hence the rain is much further north and the chances are greatly decreased. The closer proximity of the warmfront is also why it's sunnier and warmer today especially away from the coast. I'm up to 67 degrees right now and my predicted high today was 60. There is a chance of a shower or two tonight but it's probably late or after midnight. Tomorrow has a shot at 75 again and a lot of the time should be nice. The gloom and doom rainy predictions for Saturday have been greatly exaggerated and the real threat tomorrow is a front that may produce a gusty shower or T-storm and that line may not even be widespread.

Wow, are you in a furnace or what Ice?

My high today was 63.8 and yesterday was 75.3 here. Very strange as some days I'm warmer than you and others you're milder by 2-4 degrees.

Currently 53.7 with low clouds moving in from the east. Meanwhile in Long Branch an hour ago -- the fog was so thick you couldn't see the person standing 50 feet away.

Storm,

Your temp seemed really cool yesterday. My car thermometer registerred 81 and it's usually only 1 degree warmer than my thermometer at home. When I posted that 78 yesterday I aslo checked the Rutgers site and the temps in northern monmouth and southern Middlesex were all in the 77-80 range. My 78 was actually toward the low end of the area temp profile. Today's 67 was early when there was very little breeze. I'm 53.5 right now.

Ice,

The two wunderground stations nearest mine were also 75 degrees yesterday. I've noticed that your area tends to be warmer on days with little wind flow, whereas SWLY flow days I tend to be warmer. It may be a combination of that and/or simply more urbanization in the middlesex to northern monmouth corridor.

We're nearly identical right now -- 53.1 here.

Now that I think about it -- that does make sense. Days with little wind flow imply less mixing of the air from region to region, thus the more urbanized areas tend to be slightly warmer than more rural locations. On the other hand - when you have a persistent wind, temps are more uniform. Same story with night temps too.

My DVP2 station is in full sun all day with a radiational shield, so I'm definitely not worried about it being inaccurate temp wise.

This week has been very erratic in terms of temps in Monmouth county -- it's been another world from Tinton falls east w/ persistent marine flow.

My cherry blossoms are now essentially peak bloom, as are the pear trees, weeping cherries, forsythias, and magnolias (all the early bloomers). I'll take some photos tomorrow.

Otherwise the rest of the major trees are bare still, as is usually the case for April. We don't see much budding on about 90% of the trees until the last 10 days of April, then leaf-out the first week to 10 days of May.

My plum is ready. I thiink tomorrow it finally flowers.

Storm - some amazing warmth looks like it is coming in late next week.

Meanwhile Caribou takes its shot at 200" of snow in the next few days. They are going to get close. But after that the warmth may finally bring an incredible snow season up there to an end. Light snow there tonight with still about 20" on the ground.

Ice, I'm having my first real T-storm of the season right now. Loud thunder with a CTC flashes to my west. Didn't see any CTG strikes yet.

Torrential rain now with very loud thunder. Luckily we were pretty close to home when this started. Didn't expect it quite this bad.
