He gets booed so he wants to quit. Pittsburgh Steelers fans once cheered when Terry Bradshaw separated his shoulder and had to leave a game. He went on to win four Superbowls and is a Hall of Famer.

It's really sad. The guy may be suicidal. The attitude of the mother portraying her son as persecuted is probably part of the resaon this is happening in the first place.

I feel bad for Vince Young being booed off the field time in and out that must be hard on him. I hope he can put that behind him and play football.

Whats sad is its all this crap and psychobabble about how we have to always tell kids everything they do is great and special and wonderful. "Little Billy $h!t on the carpet." "Yes, but the stain looks like the Whistler's Mother. That's GREAT Billy." And so now we have this kid suicidal because all his life he has probably heard he is so great and so awesome he can't deal with it when he takes heat. I am sure its hard to get booed by 80,000 fat @$$es in the stands who could never even think about entering a stadium without a ticket. Vince Young has more ability in his butt cheeks than most of the people booing him have in their body. But still. I remember when people wondered if Mitch Williams was suicidal after giving up his home run to Joe Carter in the World Series, Williams said something like, "I'm going to kill myself? Over a baseball game?" Key word...game. If Vince Young really is suicidal that goes WAY deeper than a few interceptions. I hope he's okay. I really do. He seems like a very likable person. And I hope he comes back.

Jim, I gotta meet you and buy you a beer!!!!!!!!!! A school one of my kids went to, wanted to do away with field day!!!! They thought it was wrong to have some kids win and some lose. (this is no sh!t, not joking) and that all the kids are winners. I said, so my son will get into Harvard? She said if he does well enough. My reply was, so whats the differnce, if he doest do well in scool he loses a chance at a good school, but if he he doesnt do well in baseball the yankees would still sign him?

You know, some people are astrophysicists or play quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys and some work check out at Wal Mart. But you know what? There is absolutely nothing wrong with working check out at Wal Mart. And THAT is the message we should be giving kids. Your job doesn't define who you are or determine your worth. Its a freaking job. If you HAVE the ability, then yes, work towards loftier goals. But lets face it...not every kid is gifted that way. They shouldn't given false hope.
Speaking of astrophysicists, that guy in the Sharp Aquos TV commercial gets on my nerves. The one goes, "These days, it seems you have to be a pompous @$$hole to buy a television. Luckily, I AM one." Or something like that. I may have paraphrased.

Something tells me that there's more to this than just getting booed. I mean, I don't know what he has to be depressed about (young, famous, rich, athletic) but I guess it can happen to anyone. It could be a personal matter.

Totally agree. It's an honest living. At least you're not mooching off of taxpayers, collecting welfare and sitting at home all day not doing anything.

You're absolutely right. These kids can't deal with adversity because they were never forced to. The first time life kicks them in the @$$, they coming running to mom or dad, expecting them to bail them out because they can't handle it. Going through tough times builds character, which is what you need to be successful. You can't throw your hands up and quit the first time something doesn't go your way. Then we wonder why there are so many spoiled brats and people with a sense of entitlement. It's not the worst thing in the world for a kid to experience failure or losing. Childhood is a great time to instill life lessons.

I heard a great anectode on the attitude of kids today from an unlikely source...pro wrestler Kevin Nash. Nash was relating a story about how when he was a rookie, he was at a "house show" and in walks legendary wrestler Harley Race. All the seats in the locker room were taken. Nash said he immediately got up and said, "Mr. Race, please have my seat." Nash then said that now he is in the position Race was in back then but when he walks into the locker room, the young kids just breaking into the business don't even acknowledge his presence, let alone offer their seat. That isn't a good trend.

Another thing is you learn more from you failures than your successes. No one wants to fail but if you're human it's inevitable at some point.
A few good sayings:
Success is measured by how far you bounce up after hitting the bottom. (George Patton)
Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands in times of challenge and adversity. (MLK)

Absolutely. Trying is never a waste of time. Even if you fail, what's the big deal? You're in the same position you were at when you started. There's absolutely nothing to lose.

Unless you're skydiving or bungee jumping. Failure is a big deal then. And you most certainly are NOT in the same position you were when you started if you fail at those endeavors

I just had a very similar conversation with my daughter last night. As a freshman in HS, she needs, more than anything, to learn what its like to work hard for something. Whether its sports or academics or arts...whatever...the world is competitive. Period. Doesn't matter if you are the Wal-Mart cashier or the Astrophysics dope, work hard and do the best you can. You may not always be successful or the best, but you can certainly always try your hardest.
