It was a bitter pill to swallow, but had to come home early from ski trip to Mad River Glen in Vermont. Got up there on Friday after Christmas. Skied two runs on Saturday. It was already very slushy and conditions were deteriorating rapidly. Temps must have stayed above freezing all night. Had monsoon rains and howling wind on Sunday which completely bared the bottom half of the mountain.

They closed the main mountain lifts until winter returns.

This was after one of the best early/mid Decembers that could be expected. They had over 3 feet just the weekend before Christmas and fabulous skiing. All wasted.

Yeah over 50" of snow and not too much to show for it. More snow in the NE Kingdom then near Mad River Glen but still these 40's and rain that follow nice snowstorms really hamper the snow conditions. Now Jay Peak never has anything to worry about, and they seem to be doing okay, but still only 47/76 open and even there it sounds verry icy.

Mad River I believe does not make their own snow so that would be why they are hurting the most.

Here is the snowpack, looks around 8" up at LSC, but not nearly what it was last year:

And just comparing web cams, you can see where not making snow is hurting this season.

Nit, your are right. MRG makes virtually no snow. Its all about Mother Nature. She has not been kind this season. Things better turn around soon or all the areas are going to really start hurting.
