Still haven't had 1 plow come down my block yet in Queens. My street is still snow covered and I actually had to dig my car out this AM. I swear it looks like we got a foot of snow but it's only 3". What a mess! Went driving down a few side streets in the area and looks like HELL. No plows anywhere to be found...Utopia Parkway was a mess also. Mets really screwed up as NYC Sanitation was illprepared for this event...
LIE was partially snow covered as well..looks like as I was crossing into Brooklyn that there was more snow there than in my area...which would make sense because temps were colder throughout as you made your way west towards the city.
Truck crashed on the entrance to the BQE and the LIRR was reporting a lot of delays.
Seems to be getting back to normal now....winter wonderland for sure.

I heard them say on the news this morning that the mayor thought it would rain and wash away the snow! How sad they don't even know what kind on precip they are going to have!

I heard on the radio this morning about the snow covered highways in the city area. I couldn't believe it. On route 78 at 6:30 this a.m. you would not have even known it snowed. Overall the NJ roads were great. On my way out the door I was planning on taking the train but it wasn't necessary. Once I got to Newark the roads were messy though. Must be a city thing!

Satellite -- After everybody cleaned their cars off, and shoveled the sidewalks, I would say my street (as of this AM) had 5" of snow on it and no plows in sight. My street was not alone, most other side streets were covered as well...I was shocked when I made it to the entrance ramp of the LIE this morning to see snow covered roadways..crazy stuff.

The sanitation department admitted that they underestimated the storm. They probably listened to the mets who said that it would eventually change to rain(obviously never did in many places) and wash the slop away. In a sense, this was like another Lindsay Storm.
Satellite, you're lucky. Many of the roads in my area (about 15 miles west of NYC) are still atrocious. Mounds of slush in the middle of the road, some streets still untouched, etc. I don't get it. They usually do a bang-up job around here.

They wanted you to have the Lindsey storm Part II. How do you expect them to plow. You have to wait a week for the ploy, like we did in the sixties. Unfortunately its without the snow..

Another reason why they should follow mine, Robbbs and Ice's forecasts. ;)

And your mayor has absolutely no heart. Alternate side of the streets was not suspended, and people were handed tickets while trying to get their cars out.

I said that yesterday, that the Sanitation listened to the overpaid mets and not the experts on this board....My sis in law said that as little as it looks, it is like bricks, not snow...they really screwed up this time in NYC.

I heard the Sanitation head man say that they don't shovel unless we have atleast 2 inches of snow on the ground. We had more than that, by the looks of it.
I agree with John. Those streets are crazy. I was in midtown last night, and those streets aren't even plowed either. Same for here in the Bronx, and in Brooklyn. I give them a 0 out of five shovels.

I thought the mayor was a little heartless about the whole thing. He was the same way with the recent busing changes for the schools. Geez, even if he doesn't agree, he should be a little sympathic, not so harsh. These are the people that elected you for crying out loud. :(

Bloomberg should admit he was wrong for not canceling alternative side parking. NYC always cancels alternative side parking in any snowstorm even if it's only 2-3 inches.
The problem was Bloomberg and most of people though the city was only to get about an inch of snow then some heavy plain rain to wash it all away, which never happened.

Come on man, didn't you head Bloomberg say it wasn't a big deal and sometimes he doesn't like it when he has to wake up early to get to his job? Billionaire Bloomy is one of us commonfolk and knows how we feel and THAT is why there was no alternate side of the street parking suspension and why the plows haven't come to the secondary roads, yet.

My street wasn't 'plowed' until sometime during the night. Didn't do much since it is solid ice.
I don't live in an alternate side street (thank goodness), but it's ridiculous that they didn't canscel it. It is supposed to be for street sweepers. Obviously, it will be a while before street sweepers will be out again. It's just an easy way to write tons of tickets. I think Bloomy has done a good job overall except for his infatuation with ticket blitzes. He's been obsessed with generating revenue through tickets from day one on the job.

Maybe Bloomberg has a little heart after all. I heard on WNYC a little while ago that the tickets written Wednesday and Thursday won't count.
It would be nice if he wouldn't mouth off like a corporate bully the next time for the sake of suffering New Yorkers.
