Records only go back to 1869, so we don't know what happened before that, but do you think New York City will ever see a winter with 100 inches of snow or more?

Here's another question -- how much snow do you think a 500 year snowstorm (occuring only once in 500 years) yields in NYC? I remember reading somewhere years ago that the answer was an estimated 4' to 5' storm (48" to 60"). I suppose if we go back far enough (the Ice Age) we'd find some bigger ones. LOL.

Interesting question. The Blizzard of 1888 might have been such a storm. The official tally for that one is "only" 21 inches but if you look at newspaper accounts and eyewitness reports, they lowballed those totals big-time. There are stories of the snow reaching the 2nd floor of buildings!
The winters during the Revolutionary War sound like they were doozies around here, especially 1777-78. That's when Washington is said to have stayed in Morristown with his army during an exceptionally harsh winter. It's too bad we don't have records from that era. I think the numbers would be staggering.

LOL! I'm keeping the rest of it, I'll just get rid of the 12" snowstorm part if we get one. Hey, it could have been worse...I could be a Cubs fan and say that I'm not changing the message until they win a World Series! :D

No, and stop praying for that type of snow to come to NYC. That would paralyze the Tri-State area. We can't even take it when a blizzard dumps 2 to 3 feet of snow here.

I think you may have misunderstood me. I didn't mean 100" of snow in one storm. I meant 100" over an entire winter season. Even I wouldn't want 100" at once. ;D
