Too bad. Apparently crushed by the truck he was working on. Yeah, I remember him well.

"The Bird" is forever etched in the memory of anyone who watched him pitch. As talented as he was eccentric. As they said on ESPN, the most memorable 29-game winner in the history of baseball.

What happened to him? He won 19 games as a rookie if I remember the report on the news last night correctly. So he only won ten more games for the remainder of his career. Did he suffer an injury to his pitching arm or did he just lose his stuff quickly?

I think he blew out his knee plus had a shoulder injury.

I'm not sure about the knee but the shoulder definitely went and he was never able to heal properly. I was reading yesterday where he said he didn't have any regrets about the injury. Basically he said he got to play major league baseball and that anyone who got to do that even for a short time was very lucky. Tragic he had to die in such a horrible fashion and so young.
