EastEndSnowMan, snow pack can have an effect on weather systems, not only with cooling, but even with respect to where baroclinic or frontal zones set up. However, to what extent, if any, this can alter sensible weather is up for debate. As for next week's system, it's all dependent on track as always. If we have a favorable track (far from determined yet) we could be in the ironic position of having much less cold air but a bigger snow threat than with this past week's event.

OUCH. But if you want to have a track this far west, you want to have it now 5 days out.

Njblizzard, agreed. The last week was so frustrating following the bouncing model runs that it almost seemed like why check the models even 2 and 3 days in advance? It's a rhetorical question because we're all weather hobbyists and this is a weather discussion board so we'll always check and post about it. However, it does seem to matter very little what the models say more than within a couple of days of an event.

yes robbbs actually in think that might be what JB was meaning about next weeks storm when he said further northeast, than west ( i am still trying to figure out what he meant by that) meaning it may not be very cold, but the track could give us more snow, heck 30 degrees and snow, feels alot better than 9 degrees and heavy sleet!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ::)

Imagine if we get a perfect track and have no cold air. It's possible. What an irony. Cold air that could have supported a severe blizzard goes to waste while a perfect track could (note I said could not will) also go to waste. It's that type of winter this year.
