I have been a longtime subscriber of DirecTV, never had a problem. If AT&T takes over DirecTV, I will drop my account. Heard nothing but horror stories concerning AT&T customer service.

First of all why would you do that unless you had a problem? Secondly, if AT&T takes over DirectV they will just be corporate owners. They will not interfere with sales, service or implementation. Unless companies have a lot of overlapping services (and they d'ont in this case) that's the last thing in the world they want to do. Only back office functions such as accounting, billing, tax, human resources etc are affected in takeovers like this. Customer facing departments are rarely messed with and as I noted before the only times they are is when there is a lot of overlap in functions. The DISH Network intention to buy DirectV a few years back would have been such a situation where customer facing functions would have been messed with for obvious reasons. In this case the small operation AT&T has, which has little marketshare, will be folded right into DirectV

Just look at 880 and 1010 in radio. Did you know they have the same ownership? Yet news, weather and traffic, the lifeblood of each station are independent on each station.

RIght on Ice. DirectTV would merely be an augment to the AT&T Uverse service to help create a national footprint that would likely be too expensive to create with an entirely wired deployment.

Rumor has it AT&T left Dish because they were looking for a purchase opportunity. When Dish told them they were not for sale, AT&T cuts a deal with DTV. I think AT&T went with DirecTV because they saw a BETTER situation with investing money to have new satellites ready and already in the sky, they looked more ready for the future.
