Good Evening!

Just a few flurries for this eveing as there is plenty of instability with this cold push aloft and surface cold front. Once the trough axis passes through, we willl lose the larger scale life to support the flurries and a drier flow will take over.

The combination of deepening low pressure in the North Atlantic and a surface high pressure ridge axis shifting eastward through the Ohio valley will tighten the pressure gradient and make for a blustery day tomorrow.

For Tuesday, we should distinguish between two large scale causes for the upward motion; warm advection and a short wave trough. The warm advection set-up will cause upglide clouds and some precip quickly through the Great Lakes, making it to the northern New England coast by daybreak Tuesday. But this will miss us to the north and thus we will have to wait for our precip chances associated with the short wave trough and cold front from late Tueday and into Wednesday morning. 850mb temperatures will be near 0 along the Mason/Dixon Line and thus points south will be just a bit of rain late Tuesday and Wednesday morning. For us, boundary layer temperatures will cause p-type issues as well. Thus its probably sprinkles late Tuesday with rain showers ending as some wet flakes before ending Wednesday morning. High pressure builds in for Wednesday, but the air is not cold.

One concern in the medium range is for a backdoor, west-to-east oriented cold front that may sneak in Friday as a potent storm system moves into the Plains, shortening the wavelengths and allowing a surface high to push through New England, but that's a ways away!

Thanks Bill for all the updates this weekend. :)

No offense Bill, but do blinding snow squalls and strong winds fall under the category of "few flurries." You should at least mention it as driving conditions were very dangerous for about 20-25 minutes.

Storm -- You should know by now that everybody @ ABC downplays any weather phenomena. Just like TWC.

Who needs Snowfreak when we have RG for a good laugh :)

I like that, except I think the numbers of kneelers are quite small.

Oh, by-the-way, please define "blinding" snow squall. Is that like you're "now-selling-pencils-on-the-corner-blinding"??

Although not recently, there have been a few times, maybe 2 or 3 in the past 12 years, that I have been in blinding snow squalls up here in Monticello on Rt17.  Where you do not know if you are on the road or not, one time I thought I pulled over, only to have someone stop (luckilly) behind me to tell me I was still on the road.  Granted, they last but a few minutes, but they are dangerous.

Coming home on 84 between Waterbury and Danbury, had about 20 minutes of heavy snow with less than 1/4 mile visibility.
