SATELLITE IMAGES AND BUOY DATA INDICATE THAT THE BROAD AREA OF LOW
PRESSURE LOCATED ABOUT 200 MILES SOUTH OF THE SOUTHERN CAPE VERDE
ISLANDS IS BECOMING BETTER ORGANIZED...AND A TROPICAL DEPRESSION
MAY BE FORMING. IF CURRENT TRENDS CONTINUE...ADVISORIES WOULD BE
INITIATED LATER TODAY OR TONIGHT. LOCALLY HEAVY SHOWERS AND STRONG
GUSTY WINDS ARE LIKELY OVER THE SOUTHERN CAPE VERDE ISLANDS THROUGH
TONIGHT. THERE IS A HIGH CHANCE...GREATER THAN 50 PERCENT...OF
THIS SYSTEM BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS.

This has FISH written all over it, but could be a very nice storm, development wise. Satellite imagery already looking fantastic!

It is now Tropical Depression #7. Not expected to do much though.

This storm is not expected to get within a 1000 miles of the United States. This is hurricane season, isn't it? The only storm of any consequence has been Bill. That was impressive on Long Island, even though it was so far off shore.

Any storm that develops that far east is destined to curve very early. If you love storms the last thing in the world you want is a circ that early on. I doubt we see a Cape Verde storm this year. Home grown southern Carribean storms are starting to look the last hope for hurricane enthusiasts. Looks like a dead year at this point.

Sucks to share the name of a storm thats going to be an early recurver

Wow, little Freddy has turned into quite the storm, originally forecast to remain a TS but is now a major hurricane.

You're the better Fred. thumbsup.png

Now a CAT 3.

Bit of interesting information:

IT IS QUITE UNUSUAL TO HAVE SUCH A POWERFUL SYSTEM SO FAR EAST IN
THE BASIN AND FRED IS ONLY THE THIRD MAJOR HURRICANE NOTED EAST OF
35W IN THE TROPICAL ATLANTIC OCEAN...AND THE STRONGEST HURRICANE SO
FAR SOUTH AND EAST IN OUR DATA RECORD. THIS TYPE OF SYSTEM...
HOWEVER...WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY DIFFICULT TO ACCURATELY OBSERVE
BEFORE SATELLITE PICTURES BEGAN IN THE 1960S.

That should make our Fred happy and despite the last sentence disclaimer, I doubt there have been many storms like this that far east before. If you are going to miss the main area of play than that's the way you want to miss.

Im happy. It will be rememberd for something.

Deadest prime-time hurricane season I can remember in a long time. As far as I'm concerned we've had two storms, Bill and Fred (assuming you count a storm that far east) and everything else were imposters that couldn't even qualify for a cash for clunkers program. At least clunkers had a once productive life.

Agree, and just think, it was only a few years ago that we had the 2005 season and all the hype about many more hurricanes in the future. That hype did manage to get insurance rates way up.
