I realize this is going to be a guess on your part but to the best of your ability what would you expect the total snowfall to be for the city east?? Do you see any possiabilty of one good snow fall for the city east or do you think we can put the final nail in the coffin. I live in nassau county long island and we have only rec approx 5 inches this entire winter and this is including our sleet storm last week. That 5 inches is not an accurate number it's just approximate and might actually be generous

There are plenty of folks on the board who have more experience and knowledge than me. I'm just a hobbyist, but to answer your question -- you can't put the nail in the coffin until sometime in April. I also think March may have a good snow event in store for us. Keep in mind I'm the guy that thought NYC would see 40" of snow this season. Shows you how much I know.

O.K. Well you have have a point with the 40 inches but in your defense many people thought the same thing im not to sure that anyone expected this winter to like this ya the nxea said above normal temps and below snowfall but think they expected some snow fall. I hope your right about march. It would be really nice to see atleast one good snow fall this winter especially considering the waste of artic air that we have had.

My revised call from late December was 25-32" total for NYC. I'll be very happy if NYC can make it within 5" of that bottom number. (around 20") However, I'm doubting it. Bank on 10" for the season, possibly 15", 20" if we're real lucky and receive a major early March snow.

Like robbbs said you cant write anything off until early to mid april. But statistically the tristate area was due for a lackluster snowfall year. Theres a reason nyc only avgerages 28 inches a year. We have been spoiled the last 4 years. I remember many winters that were awful. On the positive side march has produced some historical snowstorms, robbbs may still get his 40 inches .

rg - Further to your point, the 130 year plus average for CPK is 28", but that factors in the colder winters in the past. The CPK average for the last 30 years is around 23 inches.

Which is why the 28 number is more accurate as it represents a 120+ year average.
