Happy President's Day!
Cold today for one day and then milder tomorrow.
All indicators are showing us that the northern branch of the jet stream will be the more active one and not the southern branch, so it looks like the eventual track of a weak wave of low pressure will head across the Great Lakes and interior portions of the NE. It will be a weak innocuous feature, looking a bit like a clipper, but without a big outbreak of cold air behind it.
Temperatures Tueday night along he coastal plain should probably be high enough and the precipitation light enough to support plain rain. Farther inland, a period of snow could accumulate an inch or so. However, at this point it looks like the places which will get 3 inches of snow or more wil be confined to upstate New York and northern New England.
A very large storm system will be developing over the southern Plains later this week, and it appears that it will ultimately result in some rain in the East Sunday with temperatures mostly in the mid 40s. There may be some mixing issues at the onset of precipitation next Saturday night and into Sunday morning.
