I tell you what...no matter who wins what and where, I'll just be happy to not have to see these damn commercials anymore (and having pollsters stop calling my house)!

Get off your azz and vote!

I heard about this on the radio this morning. They even are now saying corzine gave the money to do the calls. Athough not agains any laws, they said its unethical. But, isnt that all politicians.LOL

The Democratic State Committee now admits paying for a robocall to Somerset County voters that slams Republican Chris Christie and promotes independent gubernatorial candidate Christopher Daggett.

Nit, one of the problems is many people I talked to were thinking of voting for him but they say its a wasted vote. I think there is no wasted vote. If you take the time and go out to vote it gives you a right to b!tch about them. I dont like some of my friends that always are b@tching about things but never vote! It is a privlage for us to be able to do that.

I'm surprised how close the race was for Mayor of NYC. It looks like voters are saying, get something done or get lost. The incumbents are having a hard time.

I think a lot of people were also upset at him for overturning the term limits law so he could run again. Thompson gave him a run for his money, especially considering the huge advantage Bloomberg had in terms of campaign financing.

Metsfan, I think Bloomberg has spent $250,000,000 on all of his campaigns. The most personal money ever spent. If I recall, Corzine is 2nd all-time with about $125,000,000.

Andt think about how that much money could help the city. Instead he wants the fame that comes along with being mayor.

Well say goodbye to the NJ education system. Chris Christie is here and he's cutting just about everything. It's gonna get ugly.

Very tough situation. There are a ton of abuses in the NJ public sector but he's really going after everything. Yes, education costs are high in Jersey, but sometimes you get what you pay for. We do have the highest graduation rates in the country and our students receive a lot of praise, so we must be doing something right.

Some districts in New Jersey are having every last dime of state aid taken away.

Well, one can argue that this is what was left to him to work with. Big John left after giving state workers a 7.5% raise for the year.
Its 4% now and 3.5% later. Oh, did I mention that the contract says that if there is 1 layoff all of that raise is given at one time.

And what I find interesting is wasnt he um lets see how I can put this, shaging the union rep?

Its the same thing year after year with both sides, its all about who you know and who you bl@w.

BTW- If the kids go to public school isnt that a supossed to be funded by the state? Here is my gripe, why should towns that have a higher avg income get shafted more??? OK my town lost 49% of the funding, while other towns near by (that have a lower avg income) only lost 8%. So in the long run I am paying about 90% of my kids schooling while others are paying 10%

So I guess this is saying if you go to school and work hard to make a living, your screwed.

I dont find my town as being rich..................

At least Bloomberg earned his money constructively. Corzine got his through Goldman Sachs, who'd sell out the US for a buck, and builds nothing but pain and higher prices for society.

well things have to be done, not sure if it will work, but i for one...tired of paying for abbott districts. can throw all the money you want at situations, but if parents/ community dont help, nothing will. in "bad" districts, you have kids that excell, visversa..in "good" districts you have crappy performers and so on. hopefully cut backs in overstate spending will follow or how are we gonna survive as a state?

Dear Key Communicators

As you know, we needed to reduce the 2010-2011 School Budget by $4.4M in the last few weeks, reflected as Tier 1 and Tier 2 level cuts on the budget PowerPoint presentation. Tier 1 cuts were a result of reductions to 2009-2010 State Aid and Tier 2 cuts were based on the Governor’s clear statements several weeks ago that 2010-2011 State Aid would be reduced by 15%. On Wednesday we received notification from the Department of Education that 2010-2011 State Aid to BRRSD was reduced by 55%, not 15%. This meant that an additional $4.4M needed to be cut from the budget. The loss of programs, services, and personnel is severe and the quality of the school district has been undermined. The new Tier 3 cuts were presented at the March 18 Board meeting and the PowerPoint presentation can be viewed on the district website under Budget. The Board must now decide how the budget will be presented to the public on April 20; 4 options can be viewed in the same PowerPoint.

We are all experiencing an intensity of emotions, ranging from shock to frustration to anger. Last year the public passed the school budget by the widest margin in 30 years. This year the Board and I wanted nothing more than to thank the public by presenting a budget that maintained all of the programs and services the community has come to value. We have been sorely disappointed that this could not be accomplished. And now, Wednesday’s news is devastating. Words alone cannot begin to express how sadly we feel for the staff, parents, and most of all, students of this district.

One very important reminder is that no one in this district is to blame. We didn’t lose massive State Aid due to any actions of the teachers, support staff, administrators, parents, students, or Board of Education. We lost State Aid because of a decision at the state level to solve longstanding fiscal problems by making immediate and drastic cuts to public education.

We must now remain positive and hope that voters will support the district and its children on April 20, averting the possibility of even deeper cuts. Only then can we begin the rebuilding process.

Sincerely,
Michael Schilder, Superintendent ($187,578 per/year for 22years/8months)

Not fair to get on the teachers though. My opinion is the NJEA are the ones who are unrealistic. I said to my wife many times while she was a teacher that is was crazy not to be paying a portion of the health benefits. Most teachers i believe are realistic about that. If there is a problem with the salaries it's at the very high end.

Being the son of a teacher and an administrator, I know first hand that these cuts are absolutely ridiculous and will undermine the education system. Many many positions are going to have be eliminated, and class sizes are expected to bloat back up to near 30 kids per class. Also there is talk of eliminating some of the arts and elective programs (such as World Languages).

Cutting education is not the answer, especially since we are already way behind other countries in that department.

And one thing for schools to think about, CUT ATHLETICS SPENDING. A football team does not need 15 coaches and the amount of spending on football and high profile sports is ridiculous.

At least Bloomberg earned his money constructively. Corzine got his through Goldman Sachs, who'd sell out the US for a buck, and builds nothing but pain and higher prices for society.

But they're doing "God's work". rolleyes.gif

Didn't one of their executives say that? I mean, how egotistical can you be?

well im only the son in law of a teacher/admin. brother of teacher and fraternity brother of principl. cuts need to be made across the board. no problem cutting the 15 coaches of any team down(we only had 5 and we went to states). before my mom in law recently passed, she was so upset with they system after 25+ years of service, my sister is anti njea and well my good friend..just has views that are well...diff from the norm. i was just illustrating with the above post the fact that a school system may not need soo many admins in one system....guess similar to 15 coaches scenario. its abvious we need teachers, again i have many close to my heart, as well as many more police and fire fighters, but just like the real world, the state in the end is a business. these unions over the past 20 years have beat the state down like gm, but the state needs cut their operating costs too. across the board, sick time cap, vaca time caps, no more retiring with 400,000 in sick pay etc. its tough but like me, im in the service industry that doesn't make money, we are needed, but where do we get the money. for example my books alone at work, last year we increased our productivity of service over 100 units for the year, thanks to heath insurance pay rates decreasing we actually where down in dollars over $25,000. how do you operate? we started with cutting one of the people that produce, so more work, but thats just how it is.

in short, may sound terrible, we need to get back to taking care of our own. no more freebees to illeagals, imo, is the cause for this. healthcare...free delivery of babies, heart attack no prob..write it off, well now healthcare is crumbling. schools... esl kindergarten....stay all day and while your at it, free lunch! the kids that speak english can go to K a half day, then pay for after care, thats their fault they know english. can kepp giving to people that dont contribute, doesnt matter what party is leadin, who is gov, who is pres....no buisiness can give services away and survive.

Oh yes theres definitely too many administrators. A school needs a principal, a vice-principal, and a district superintendent, and thats it. A Dean of Students is essentially a paid hall monitor, and god knows what some other positions are called. And all these supervisors and coordinators they're hiring now are jokes. The school where my mom works has a "Reading Specialist". What in God's name is that?

Not saying i have the answer by any means but here's the thing. I personally know people that have worked very hard their whole lives only to no longer be able to get/afford health insurance. Normal every day people and some that even had professional type jobs at one time. Now some are having serious health problems. In one instance someone i know had to go to H-town hosp (w/o health insur) for chest pains. You could imagine the cost after the myriad of tests and a several day stay. This person wound up having mult bypass surgery at the hosp that runs on donations down near Trenton i think. Well about a week after they came home they got very sick and had to be rushed back to H-town hosp. Again a few days and several tests later they are now back at the hosp near Trenton for a staph infection in his heart. This is just one example but what does this person do? And this example is only a small chunk of the medical costs this family has. Sure illegals are a big culprit for free/unpaid medical care but they are far from the only part of the equation.

Just another reason why health care reform is completely necessary and a public OPTION (not everybody has to take it, so there is a choice, if you want to keep what you have) is needed.

Also, quick numbers but
185 school days x 8hrs a day (that gives them a extra hr for work at home since school day is 7 ) came out to
1,480 hrs.

so a teacher that makes $75K makes $51 hr

Makes 100K makes $68 Hr

Plus great benifits and just about impossible to get fired after 5 yrs. Not bad

Not saying teachers arent important, or shouldnt get paid well. But my wife is a RN and helps people (many times saving a life ) everyday and after 20+ years she doesnt make that kind of money. Not even close if you go by hourly pay. Plus no healthcare after she leaves.

BTW- if you use a 7 hr work day (that includes a lunch break) it would be...

$75K = $58 hr

$ 100K = $77 hr

Well the only ones that make $100k+ are administrators and they work year-round everyday with 4 weeks vacation like everyone else. Most other teachers get paid $40k starting, and up to ~$80k+ when you've been there many many many years.

Yeah the ones in bold are mostly administrators.

Kurt Weaver is a Vice Principal
Donna Snyder is the head of the food services
Karen Perez is a Principal
Strauzer, Bechtel, and Boyle are Guidance Counselors (CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THEY MAKE THAT MUCH!)
Waldron is also a VP

Oh no. The pre-K teacher in the old school my kids went to made $111,000!! Depends on what town you live in.

Wow definitely does depend on town then.

Those salaries actually surprise me Lab. From my personal experience i know teachers mainly in the 50-70K range and that's Morris and Sussex cty. I think it's fair to start around 40. After 10-15 years the 60-70 range seems fair esp with a Masters. It is a professional job. Also i think the hours worked are grossly underestimated by people who aren't around many teachers at home. They do a lot of work outside the regular school day. Of course we all have seen some older ones who can be burnt out and cut corners. That's sort of where the union allows them to get away w/o any type of performace incentive. But that's a whole different issue.

Just another reason why health care reform is completely necessary and a public OPTION (not everybody has to take it, so there is a choice, if you want to keep what you have) is needed.

I have no problem making sure everyone has access to health care. No one should have to stay up at night worrying about what happens to their finances if they get sick. You can take great care of yourself (great diet, exercise all the time) and you can still fall ill. The body is not a perfectly functioning system. Things happen. I just don't think the bill on the table tonight is the cure-all. They're promising too much. I've always been taught that when someone promises you the moon, be wary. Be VERY wary. See Bernie Madoff. Many fundamental flaws of the current system are not being addressed with this piece of legislation. Costs are still going to be out of control, for example. The money has to come from somewhere; either government subsidies or through increased premiums for everyone's policies. There is no free lunch and I just don't think some people understand that.

This bill, if it passes, will bring some needed changes to health care. The problem is all the baggage that comes along with it. To bad it couldn't be passed without the garbage. One thing I simply don't believe is that it will bring down the deficit. When it comes to legislation and programs the government has its hands in, deficit and down do not belong in the same sentence.

I don't either. If you're going to insure 32 million people who are not currently covered anywhere else, logic dictates that costs are going to increase, especially if many of these folks are not in good health going in. The government is being disingenuous about how much all of this is going to cost IMHO.

Sure illegals are a big culprit for free/unpaid medical care but they are far from the only part of the equation.

my father is 59, owns his own business(struggling here in nj & lookin to leave) anf pays $1200 / mth for my mother and himself. meanwhile illeagals can get free service, have babies, free diapers/food and health care for the free baby, now a citizen while my father and i and you all are paying for that. imo i would rather give freebees to citizens that have been and contributed their whole life. i've also experienced leagal imigrants that have come here in their later years go on medicare. sure they have followed the rules to come here, but do they deserve t obe on medicare, they haven't worked here to contribute money to they system...more freebees.
bottom line where does the money come from?

105 g's for the head of food service...really? could add two new teachers for that. many districts are out sourcing cafateria and janitorial services, seems they need to do it there.

Total scumbags. And they wonder why teachers are losing sympathy? The union they belong to is run by a bunch of lowlifes.

And every school budget submission, every teachers wage increase demand, every perk, every benny is always justified by the line that "it's for the children and they are our future". That line could be used if they wanted 1000 times what they're already getting and/or demanding. It's playing on people's emotions without fiscal merit or responsibility. Try getting a concession from the teachers union -- they'd rather eat their own young than give up anything. Oh but I forgot -- it's for the children and they are our future.

Please. Look at all the money that has been thrown at Abbott districts over the years. Has it improved results one iota? No. If anything, things are worse than they've ever been in those places. Lots of money spent doesn't guarantee results.

The proposed school budget in my town was overwhelmingly defeated yesterday by a vote of 61% to 39%, and the 3 of 7 candidates elected to the school board were the 3 who were opposed to the budget and favored additional administrative and other cuts. The majority of communities in northern NJ passed their local school budgets but about 40% did not, often in those communities that have high tax rates. One of my neighbors ran for the school board and was defeated (she was an incumbent) and while she had some good ideas on education, I told her before hand that it was a political mistake for her to favor the proposed budget as she did. It's been very much a stop taxing us to death reactive vote here, coupled with ill feelings about teacher salary increases despite a stagnant economy, and declining student test scores.
