A very interesting morning so far with respect to temperatures. The winds were slow to turn around from the southwest overnight, and thus some radiational cooling took place. This cold, dense air settled down into the valleys, promoting a local area of high pressure with stable air at the surface. Once the winds did come around overnight, the warm air was forced over the top of the cold, surface air and thus may elevated reporting stations were a great deal milder than the valley locations. As the cold air retreats and quickly mixes out, temps will spike as milder air form aloft mixes down.
The bulk of the moisture will pass south of the city tonight, and the over lapping area where boundary layer temps are cold enough for snow and falling precip will be very small. Additionally, with mild air today and much of tonight, any locations that do go to snow will have wet roads. But for Sussex, Passaic, Orange and Rockland counties there can be a coating, mainly on the already present snowpack.
Nice day tomorrow...we will mix fairly high and with sunshine. Thursday may be just as mild as tomorrow ahead of the next clipper.
Things get convective later Thursday as the clipper moves through. There can be some showers, especially to the north of the city. Temps in the Friday through the weekend period will be tricky as a nice cold shot comes for Friday and then an easterly flow with increasing amount of clouds for the weekend.
