We seem to be missing out in two ways for Thursday -- first, the cliiper system passes to our north; and second -- a new coastal bombs too far east. On top of that, there are major temp and precip type issues. Unless this has some surprises, best chance of seeing any real snow out of this would be confined to eastern inland CT , RI, and parts of inland southeast MA, and even in those areas I wouldn't have a high degree of faith in seeing more than 2" to 4" of snow, if that. Catskills and Berkshires may see similar snows from the clipper.

On the radio this evening I heard them say "Thursday, coating to an inch of snow for mainly Suffolk County"

Long Island would be closest to the bombing low but have major temp and p-type issues. The coating to and inch idea in Suffolk County is not a bad forecast IMO. Were it not for the warm temps, eastern LI would probably share in those 2" to 4" possibilities for inland eastern CT, RI, and eastern MA. The wild card is the bombing low -- can it pull down colder air and have some surprises and/or could an inverted trough spit out much more precip? These are possibilities but not very likely and no forecast would factor these long shots in at this time.

Rgwp96, I believe the NAM experimental snowfall prediction maps are throwing some crazy numbers -- 10"+ snow for NY metro and LI. I have yet to remember these maps verifying even once. Even with last week's event, they had our area in the 24" snowfall zone less than a day before the event onset.

Rgwp96, thanks for posting. That's the map I was referencing. On closer inspection, the 10"+ zone is confined to parts of Suffolk County. NY metro is in the 4" to 6" zone. Again, I have yet to remember these NAM snowfall maps verifying even once and they seem to ignore the soundings in this case.

Robbbs - I think you just put some folks in Suffolk into cardiac arrest.

As per J.Bolaris from cbs news @11pm, 1-2" most of our area except east of Islip, where 2-4" can happen.

Looks like we're getting some snow after all! And in true Winter 06/07 style it's another coating to an inch or so!
