Can you imagine if a Republican/Conservative had said what Reid said? You'd never hear the end of it. The cries of "RACIST" would be heard in every corner of the nation. Anyone who doesn't think there is a double standard for liberals is kidding him/herself.

There's double standards everywhere in politics and on both sides.
In fact most politicians don't do what they preach.

Democrats have it in this sense.
Republicans have it in National Security and moral issues.

I'm sure there's plenty more too.

Yeah, but let's drop this idea that the Democrats are the party of the oppressed and disenfranchised, always looking out for the little guy.

Oh totally agree, its just that they run and campaign on moral issues.

Seems that the harder one side preaches on an issue, the more hypocritical they become on that issue, and the more they use the people that actually believe in what they are preaching to their advantage.

And FWIW I also don't like the leaders of the Democratic party, Reid and Pelosi, and believe that the party would get more respect (from across the aisle) and get more things done if those two weren't the spokespeople of the party.

And Cheney needs to stop talking. He always said during Bush's terms that no one should criticize a wartime President and that if anyone does they are aiding the terrorists and making us look weak. Well this past year he hasn't stopped criticizing Obama. Now there's a double standard.

Can't disagree. I always thought Cheney was an a-hole, even though I grudgingly agreed with him on certain issues.

And you are right when you say that people were branded as "un-American" if they criticized Bush during the Afghan and Iraq wars when he was in office. That's just as ridiculous then as it is now. You can love your country and still question its decisions, similar to how you may not always agree with what your kid does. Doesn't mean that you don't love him when you give him a tounge-lashing.

Completely agree. Questioning decisions and speaking out (peacefully and respectfully) is what is so good about this country and what makes a democracy work.

cheny is an *** just like beiden. cheny was quiet till bushs term ended and now they are trying to keep beiden quiet too. back to the topic pres obama was saying to cnn that he knows reid is good, he called him and apologized to him , but everything is blown out. possibly true there are other pressing things on the table, but basically reid is saying that its ok to elect him because he doesnt fit the steriotypical "black" that americans may think. c'mon they think we are that stupid??..perhapse we are we vote these nimbrods back all the time. btw if it was no big deal why did he have to apologize in the first place. imo the statement he made is racist, spin anyway you want if this is what the democratic party wants as representation(along with pelosi) so be it.....change is not coming. that you can take to the gov't controlled bank.

I for one, do not.

And yes if a Republican had said this, I'm sure the Democrats would be calling for his resignation as well. Whether he would resign, that's a different question.
Of course this is one of the reasons why politics are so polarized. People and politicians thinking of themselves as Democrats/Republicans rather than Americans and legislators and members of Congress representative of their constituents. They need to stop being so divided and find a common goal on something. Stop warring with each other and focus on things that need to be warred upon.

Nittany has a dream!!! That one day politicians will think freely, not by party affiliate, not with there the third leg they have and not because its the way the lobbyists want them too. But, because its the right thing to do!!! I have a dream!!!
