Under the new format, both teams would get the ball at least once unless the first team to get the ball scores a touchdown, Greg Aiello said. If the first team to get the ball makes a field goal and the other team ties the game, action would continue until a team scores again.

I think it should be each team get the ball at 50 yard line and only can score TD...NO FG....make it tough and fun....

I say leave the system alone. The team that doesn't get the ball first in OT needs to play defense. If they don't, they don't deserve to win. Just my opinion.

At least it would avoid what happened in the Saints-Vikings game but still not enough for the playoffs. Both teams should have an equal shot so kick it back even after a TD that is scored by the coin toss winner and let the scoring teams defense prove itself. Why stop at a FG? I'd leave it alone in the reg season. But imagine a great SB that ends with a coin toss victory and a kick-off TD return. I'd feel real gipped.

Except that look at the Saints-Vikings game. The officials didn't allow the Vikings to play defense and literally gave the Saints the victory in a game that they essentially got killed in. You would see the ultimate competitive play after such a score.

True...the penalties were questionable at best, but think of it this way. The Vikings had a perfectly good chance to win the game in regulation and blew it. An idiotic 12-men-in-the-huddle penalty, coupled with a boneheaded INT by Favre. It's hard to feel bad for them.

It's hard to feel bad for any team Brett Favre is on but nevertheless losing without ever touching the ball in OT is different than missing a chance to win in regulation and with the horrendous officiating in the NFL the former is a much greater chance than the latter.

That's fair. There are way too many ticky-tack penalties in the NFL today...plus, these kickers have such strong legs. A 50-yard field goal isn't really much of a problem for them. All a team has to do is get a few first downs to enter field goal range if they start with decent field position.
