According to reports, LT is now a Jet. Signed a 2 year contract.

If you would have swap jones and LT last year, LT could have same numbers as jones running behind jets Offensive line. I think its more jets O line then jones or LT talent. I think at this stage, they both are same players but LT can catch better in the backfield. I would be really surprise if Jones has same succes next year in K.C..

I couldn't agree more with this article concerning the LT signing.

Two years, $5.1 million for L.T.

The New York Jets declined, we're told, the ability to match the two-year, $5 million contract that running back Thomas Jones signed with the Chiefs.

They matched that number and added $100,000 in order to get LaDainian Tomlinson under contract.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Tomlinson's two-year deal has a base value of $5.1 million. The contract includes an additional $500,000 in escalators.

So what were they thinking? Jones rushed for 1,402 yards in 2009, averaging 4.2 yards per carry. Tomlinson, in contrast, gained only 730 yards with a per-carry clip of 3.3 yards.

The Jets should have given the same package to Jones. In our view, they're now paying more money for a lesser player.

Yep, I agree with you and the article. LT IMO is on his decline, has been for two years. His numbers have steadily declined.

They could have given Jones the same contract, who had a lot of success last year.

Jones is older than LT, by about 10 months or so, but had 700 or so yards more than LT.

Now LT is a pretty good pass catcher. Maybe the Jets were looking at that.

What if Greene, the #1 back goes down with injury? You'd really expect Lt to fill in as the main back.

Sorry, but the Jets need to explain this because I'm baffled and probably not the only one.

The jets prob doesnt think jones was gonna have the same year next year and he was non factor end of the year...I think he had a great year behind a great O-line and thats what jets must be thinking? Dont be surprise if jets dont match offer given to leon and get couple of picks from that team. And then draft RB thru draft and go with rookie, LT and Greene for next year. It might take Leon one full season to recover from that injury. BTW, i am pretty sure LT would have much better number last year running behind jets O-Line...And will sell some more tickets then Jones...

I figured the theory behind the Jets releasing Jones was that you cut a player loose one year too early instead of one year too late, but if that's the case...why bring in Tomlinson? Who knows what he has left? Makes me think something behind the scenes happened with Jones that prompted his release. Maybe he felt threatened by Greene's success late in the season and in the playoffs?
