Where do I start?
Metfan's favorite team is 2-5, 4 games behind the 1st place Phillies, who are 6-1 going into tonight.
Losing 2 of 3 to the Nationals is unacceptable.
But, hey, I really don't care.

The Mets do not have the team to take them to the post season, with or without injuries. There was probably a 3+ year period where the Mets were auguably the best team in the National League, but they under-achieved, invented ways to lose, lacked discipline, and blew leads in incredible and horrific fashion in the last stretch of the season for consecutive years. Opportunities like those do not come along very often, and now that era is behind them with nothing to show for it but frustration. It's really a re-building period the Mets find themselves in now, regardless of the usual and unrealistic team hype for fan consumption.

Well after a real crappy start, of late the last 2 games, they have bee playing good ball. I figured last night would be a loss with Perez on the hill. He pitched decently, a game I would expect out of him, but Takahashi and Acosta blew the game and any chance the Mets had to get back in the game. But man one helluva catch by Ike Davis when he stretched out to make that out and then flip over the dugout railing in the 2nd inning I think it was.
Time to brush it all off and get ready for the next game.

Looks like the mets will have a game and a half lead on the phils here shortly.
Nice offensive game for the mets and Maine actually pitched a very nice game. Who would have though the Mets bullpen of Feliciano and K-rod both would have ERAS of .84 now and Valdes and Meija would have ERA's under 1.90, thats a nice bullpen to have. i know it is early in the season but damn, they have been impressive.
And throw in Pelfman with a .69 ERA
An excellent 9-1 home stand, hottest team in baseball right now. Should be a fun series this weekend

The argument about any ballpark playing one way or another not being fair is moot because it plays the same way for both teams playing on a given day. So even if you can homer on half a swing, its still a level playing field because the home team and the visitor has the same opportunity. Unless you have an unscrupulous team that has some type of vent system that can alter the currents in the stadium. But assuming that's not the case how the ballpark plays is irrelevant IMO. And as someone pointed out, Halladay kept it in the park. Granted, Halladay is an exceptional pitcher. But it can be done.

Jim -- I agree. Some people might argue the case that in baseball, the home team tailors its type pf players around their home ball park (ie. more left handed swingers if the right field fences are closer, etc.). However, even if that were so, each team would be doing the same player tailoring for its home ball park so it washes out in the end. Another interesting point to consider is that I believe stats show the greatest home team advantage in pro sports is in basketball. That's pretty amazing since court dimensions and every element is 100% identical in every arena. Obviously there are other factors at play that dictate home team advantage and the old saying in basketball is that the home crowd is the 6th man on the court. In addition, players are in their own homes, with their family/friends, not traveling -- all those factors, plus the home crowd cheering are probably far bigger factors for "home field advantage" in baseball, than the argument that the ball carries better or worse in specific parks.

This continues to amaze me. Santana has retired the last 9 batters in a row but of course, you can't let him pitch the ninth. I can understand taking a pitcher out if they look like they are getting tired but when the pitcher is obviously pitching strong, I say keep him in. The closer does not have to close just because he is the closer and forget the pitch count, these guys are treated like they have arms made of paper.

What makes it more sickening is the mets will unlikely get into the post season without him winning games and giving the ball to franky is a crapshoot.
Meanwhile Phil Cuzzi's eyesight remains nearly blind as he blew another obvious call - this one favoring the Mets. This one wasn't as bad as the call on Mauer that benefitted the Yankees in the playoffs, but I d'ont think any call could ever be that bad. Giants should have swept the series. How the heck does an ump this bad keep his job.
