Agreed; some of what Christie is proposing is outlandish but I don't think he's being unreasonable in this particular situation. I understand that their job is dangerous, but if you're a cop making $100k+ per year, you can afford to contribute 1.5 percent of your salary for your health benefits. There's no excuse and it's not a tax. Anyone who argues that is being disingenuous.

Do most cops make $100k+? I don't think so, but I don't know.

A lot do. I don't have the article in front of me, but I was surprised myself to see how many did when it was in The Record or Star Ledger a few weeks back. And even if it's not exactly $100K, many do very well after being on the force for a few years. The point is that I don't think it's unreasonable to ask them to contribute a nominal amount of their salary towards benefits when so many in the private sector have had to do this for many years.

most of my friends at patrolman level make 60-90 after 5-10 years depending on locale. whats u get some ranks easily clear 100 g's. 1.5% isn't much especially for the bene's they get (and deserve) but we all gotta be realistic these days (unless ur in gov't or wall street of course)
