Well I will be moving up to Burlington, VT for most of this summer (driving up this Thursday) as I have been hired as a SCEP (Student Career Experience Program) Student Trainee Meteorologist at the Burlington National Weather Service. This is considered a paid internship, in which I will work full time this summer and then part time during the semesters of my Senior year at school. After which, as long as I complete a total of 640 hours, and I don't f*** up (haha), this has the potential to convert to a full time meteorologist position within the National Weather Service.

I will be making at least one trip back to NJ before the summer is over, and our family vacation out west at the end of the July, but for the majority of the year now, I will be in Vermont!

Wow, Congrats on that. Good luck on it becoming a full time job.

That's awesome good luck! Have fun hanging out on Church St this summer LOL.

Where's the big vaca to this summer?

I guess if you get a job with the NWS it could be anywhere in the country right? Pretty exciting.

Congrats Mike!

Good luck and have fun Mike. The words "full time job" are getting harder to come by in this economy, so if you're able to obtain employment out of this then that's a job well done. I'm also doing a paid internship this summer (started a couple weeks ago working w/ an environmental engineer), definitely should pay off in the long term! Sounds like you may be setting up shop in Vermont for good. So far would you say you enjoy Vermont more or your native home NJ?

That is great to hear Milke, and I'm really happy for you. The quality of your posts on this board already make you an obvious pro. Enjoy and make the most out out it. This is how good careers start.

Vacation this summer is out to Montana and Alberta. Plan on seeing Glacier National Park, Banff National Park, Jasper National Park, and Calgary!

And yeah how the non-competitive conversion works is if there is an opening anywhere in the NWS, they offer it to the SCEP interns first before opening it up to the public.

Well NJ is hard to beat as the state really does have everything from mountains to beach to city. I also really enjoy Vermont, but the one thing that I sometimes get tired of up there is the lack of things to do in the immediate area of my college, but since I'll be in Burlington this summer, hopefully that won't be too much of a problem.

Nice Banff and Jasper are amazing. The wildlife you see up there is incredible. Jasper is where i saw my only grizzly bear in the wild. You probably saw some of my pics from a few years ago. So far they haven't had the best weather this spring up there but hopefully it will get better.
