Wish you could trade draft picks in Baseball for Mondays Draft, would love for the Mets to get this kid.Or hope he falls to the 7th pick which i doubt.Alot of scouts Compare him to mickey Mantel at the same age(17).You think the HYpe with Strasburg is crazy, wait til this kid comes up!!

Here are his stats for the college of Sothern Nevada(USING A WOODEN BAT)
Games--64
AB----228
Hits---101
Runs --98
HRS---31
rbi's---98
SB'S--20
Walks-40
K'S----43
AVG--443
OBP---529
SLG---982
HR/AB--7.35

He recently went 6 for 6 with four homers and 10 RBIs in a game to power Southern Nevada to the Junior College World Series.

Harper has been considered the best draft prospect to ever come out of high school. He was profiled by Sports Illustrated and labeled "the LeBron James of baseball". The hype caused Harper to get his GED and leave high school early, so that he could attend Junior College for a year and become eligible for the draft early

Here is another quote
If Bryce Harper, 17, lives up to half of the hype, he'll be Mickey Mantle, Johnny Bench and Roy Hobbs rolled into one.

He is sick. I"ve been hearing about him for the last year or so. He's the Lebron James of baseball and some.

I have never seen him save for the clips of his prodigous home runs on YouTube three season's back, but if everything printed about him is true, he will be the first pick. The real shame would be if he fell to number 2 because the Nats cannot afford him. He has Boras as an agent and its already being said he will get more money that Strasburg did.

I like the fact that he went against the norm and used a wooden bat in college. That was smart of him.

He has definitely made many good moves in getting ready for today. However, I hope what he has done does not become a trend, though its probably inevitable. After his Soph year of HS, he obtained his GED and went JUCO. Thats a bad precedent, but one that seems to have worked for this kid

Strasburg makes his first start this week. I think it is tomorrow actually.

Edit - just checked. It's tomorrow and the MLB network will air it.

Smart of the Nats to wait until June to call him up (as was the plan all along). This way...they keep his rights for an extra season as opposed to if they had kept on the big club out of spring training.

Maybe I'm misreading this kid Harper but he was saying some stuff on his E:60 interview that I wasn't sure about. He was talking only in terms of himself. As in "I want to hit .430" "I want to have the most hits ever." I want to go to the Hall of Fame. Why else does anyone play?" Well, how about to help your team win World Series Championships? Granted, a Hall of Fame career will do that. But just a lot of "I" from a guy who hasn't set foot on a professional baseball field. On the other side, he has a beautiful swing and he whips it through the zone. I do think he'll have a successful career. But will he be one of these guys like say, Gary Sheffield, who has a ton of talent but such a selfish attitude he wears out his welcome everywhere he goes?

That would be a horrible shame....but thats sort of like the JD Drew story too. He was awfully highly regarded out of HS, was drafted by Philly I believe, didn't sign (Boras client), was drafted again and never came close to meeting expectations. The difference between sheffield and Drew seems to be that Sheffield never matured, but it seems Drew fell into place in Boston.

Let's remember he's 17 years old.

And he's also played organized sports since he's what...6 or 7? Where they try and instill the "no I in 'team'" mentality. But then again I have never hit the farthest ball in the history of Tropicana Field so maybe he has the right to be arrogant.

Yes, Drew was drafted by Philly but refused to sign. He signed instead with the Cardinals and was a good player, but nothing really special. He has matured and gained a lot of respect from both players and fans in Boston. Sheffield is kind of like the Terrell Owens of baseball. Has incredible talent. Goes to new teams and plays the "good guy" for a while. Fans buy in, teammates buy in. But eventually and, seemingly inevitably, his real personality comes out and he alienates people and gets traded and starts all over again. But he usually does a lot of good for the team in the year or so before that happens. I don't think Harper has that kind of personality. But he's definitely got an arrogance to him. I mean, he wears his eye black like the Ultimate Warrior. It takes a set to do that. Of course, as I said about people who say Floyd Mayweather is arrogant and obnoxious. 42 people have lined up to shut him up and he's still talking. IF this kid Harper really is arrogant, somebody at some level of baseball needs to step up and knock him down a peg. So far, no one has.
