Here's the radar showing the extremity of the heaviest rain, and all the training of very heavy rains that ocurred before it. The only time I ever saw a pink radar signature was when I was in Myrtle Beach when a stalled storm over the beach itself dropped 7" of rain in less than an hour, probably in a seabreeze induced event and one with only minor lightning. Less than a mile further west there was no rain so that was a very localized oddball event. This one was widespread, had a lot of dynamics and caused horrendous damage and loss of life.
