A match is currently going on and has been for about 8 hrs..set is 53-51.

Don't knoiw much about tennis but this has to be a record..Anyone here know tennis?if so to compare, what would a 53-52 match be in baseball extra innings? This would give me an idea on how long this match(or set, what ever they call it) really is

This is now the longest tennis match on record. It's tied 59-59 in the fifth set, and suspended again to be finished tomorrow (now the third day). A normal tennis match is best of 5 sets (and each set is first to 6 games, or 7 in a tiebreaker, except in the 5th set here where you have to win by two games).

In this case Isner won the first set 6-4, lost the second 6-3, lost the third 7-6 in tiebreak, and won the fourth 7-6 in tiebreak. So the fifth set is for the whole thing, and is currently tied 59-59. So total number of games played is 163. In a normal match that goes just about as long as possible, (4 sets going 6-7 or 7-6, and the last one say 6-4), that would be about 62 games (and even that would be a GREAT match...I'm sure some remember Roddicks and Federer's final last year that went 16-14 in the last set and that was proclaimed one of the best ever played). So if you want to talk innings, make 62 equivalent to 9 (so basically divide by 7). Now divide 163 by 7 and you get about 24 innings, and this still isn't over.

Unfortunately I was at work and couldn't watch it, but I heard that the play is really getting degraded and messy now, since 1.) these aren't the top players and 2.) its been 163 games and 10 hours.
