Looks like a good chance of storms area wide the next couple of days. Currently Western Jersey and Eastern PA looks to be getting hammered with some nasty ones.

Chances are really the next 24-30 hours. Models will not pick-up well on slowly moving localized drenching downpours. Both ARW and NMM are best suited for this and they both show pockets of 3-4" rains with much lesser .25-5" not too far away from those embedded pockets. In this situation regional or localized heavy rains are much more favored than wide-spread heavy rains.

Anyway it better rain. 95-100 temps are back in play late week, and it really looks hot all of next week too. Oppressively humid and tropical out there right now.
TatamyPA
The most lightning activity right now is in metro Philly and central NJ

Some decent showers beginning now. I may actually get something out of this. rolleyes.gif

Went outside. Dark grey clouds overhead are moving very rapidily from the south.

If this misses me I give up completely. Already a forerunner band of heavy rain working south to north fell apart right on my doorstep. All I got out of it was some light rain and it was 50dbz rain as it got on top of me. But this area working in from the west has caused Mt Holly to put up a flood advisory for my area.

Very dark in Springfield right now. Looks like a big line is headed right for us.
metfan4life
Very dark outside. Looks like it's going to pour.
forte408
Looks like I may be missing out on this first batch, again. I hear thunder in the distance, but only light rain thus far.
metfan4life
Starting to rain.
icehater
Fnally - very heavy rain here - has knocked out my satellite signal. No thunder.
NYBrit
Light rain here so far. Hopefully some of those heavier bursts will come my way.
icehater
Deluge here - now with thunder.
NYBrit
Heavy rain now. It's good to see. Seems so long since we had rain like this.
NYBrit
NOW it's a deluge. Good to see. We need this rain and who knows when it'll happen again.
metfan4life
Torrential downpours right now with thunder and lightning. The wind is also picking up.
Stormchaser
Drought finally breaking.

Up to 0.76" here with tropical downpours. Very humid, 75F dew point. Hopefully a lot more where this came from.
icehater
Moderate rain here now with a brightening sky. But radar showing more heavy showers developing south and moving up. It is really tropical outside now.

Ehop
Coming down sideways in downtown Manhattan
icehater
In and out of heavy rains here now. Sun trying to break through also. Stream of heavy showers riding north look to come in here with the heaviest one down near Toms River. I'm up to 1.01". No wind with any of this activity. Some light-moderate thunder - all high sky.
rgwp96
first batch only dropped .25 here . another heavy batch about to move in
icehater
Incresaing thunder just south of me - this is louder than earlier storms. 1.35" of rain so far today - way more than I hoped for.
FreezingDrizzle
I got the same, 1.3 inches, on some good downpours. Looks like more coming our way.
rgwp96
.91 of rain here so far
icehater
For the first time this season I had to waste water from my pool. It got filled to the top and that would indicate we got more rain than my rain gauge is reading. Got another drenching deluge, then a glimmer of sun and now it's thundering again. Rain gauge now reads 1.72" but pool says over 2" fell.
Kelli013
Feast or famine continues, the feast so far 2.20". Never thought I would be so happy to see rain.
forte408
No where near that much rain here Ice.

You must have had yours almost full before the rain then. If it didn't rain today mine would probably need more water.

I've got just under 1" here. Don't know how you picked up so much more than me.
Stormchaser
This looks like just the appetizer. Main course on the way tonight w/ potentially another 1-2"+.

Nope - normal level - halfway up the skimmer and about .25" over the shelf between the jacuzzi and pool.

Don't know how you got so little. You're at the opposite end of Colts Neck from me so maybe this area and NE just got hit harder as Kellie's totals are very similar. Most radar composites show 2" of water in this area and that's about what I got. Rain was torrential here, at times knocking visibility to very low levels. But to me there's no better rain gauge than a pool and if I use that instead of the rain gauge then 2.25" fell. Trust me - because of the hilly terrain of my yard I cannot have a pool filled to the top. I have a steep drop at the back of the pool and while I have planted a ton of shrubs there I still worry a lot about soil erosion if that pool ever overflows. It's something I worry about everytime I go on vacation. So a pool reaching right to the top scares the hell out of me. From dead center of my skimmer to the top of the pool is 2.5".

Yeah you probably got into the darker red echos on radar for a longer duration w/ that initial batch. Looks like some intense convection developing in Ocean county again.

I'm located basically dead center in Colts Neck twp, about 3/4 mile from the rt34/537 intersection. But you're up near Camp Arrowhead in Marlboro near the border. Colts Neck is a pretty large town, probably about 7 miles from the SE corner bordering Tinton falls to the NW corner near your house.

i wouldnt say that since some water from the concrete surrounding the pool can certainly help add to your pools totals from runoff espc if its from a super heavy downpour
forte408
There are finally puddles on the ground here, but it wasn't from heavy rain. We had a little while of steady rain, but nothing like Storm and ICe are talking about. Must have missed me to the west. Looks like this cluster down in Ocean County may expand and nail me though. Hope so.

Maybe. My pool slopes away pretty quicky. Even if I put a hose near it and turn it on 90+% of the water will roll away from the pool. I've also got an irregular bull nose all around the pool to aid in a natural look. So in many cases the coping extends 1-1.25" into the pool as an overhang. It is not flush with the walls of the pool.
rgwp96
up to 1.40 aftre that last deluge that just passed through
Stormchaser
Forte, looks like this cluster pounding me right now is missing to your west again. Just saw a vivid CTG bolt with loud thunder. Torrential rains and probably the most humid day so far this year.

Loud thunder SE of me - should be over you. Much of this area is missing me SE so you should start closing the gap. Part of it should hit me. BTW - with all the talk of the pool I should note I now have 1.92" in the rain gauge.
Kelli013
My pool was about 1/4" below the middle screw on the skimmer and now it is about 1/4"+ above the opening. Rain was torrential where I could barely see the back fence clearly. My husband heard on the radio some areas of Monmouth Cty received 4", not sure about that although directly south of me looked to have some stronger purples on radar. Maybe someone can check it out.
Stormchaser
Ice, I'm at 1.98" now. Much needed rains. If we can get another intense cluster tonight that'd be great, although I can't be too greedy in this pattern.
bm55
Not me. Only .32 here. Was working in Manhattan today and there were some heavy downpours between 12-130. Don't know how much NYC officially got, but if i had to make an educated guess, i would say 1.10"

Radar on TWC was off in that last storm. It had me in orange echoes for 15+ mins but all I got was a few seconds of large drops and that was it. My daughters friends parents came over to pick up her play date and they are 2 miles away and said the rain there was incredible when they left and they came here to no rain.
Kelli013
Picked up another .38, for a total so far of 2.58".

Skies to my NW where there is heavy rain activity are incredibly rain swollen with the typical smoky clouds under dark sky scene you see in slow moving storms.
weatherbowl
Raining hard here, about three tenths so far today.
Kelli013
Thanks BM55, looks like what I saw on radar verified. I'm very happy with the precip for today and not to be greedy still hoping for more. Maybe the water restriction will be lifted for our area to watering lawns every other day.
icehater
Flash flood watch here. Lumbering showers are inundating areas to my NW and the area of very heavy rains in the MA arrives after midnight. Thise rains near Old Bridge and SW are bonus rains and that area should have some phenomenal rain totals.
Kelli013
Ice what radar are you using? 7 online radar shows that line stationery for 20 minutes+.

Need all we can get now with the heat building in for this weekend and after that. Check this radar, you can move the map all around.

2 People struck by lightning today at West Hampton beach, apparently "not seriously injured" if that makes sense.
