Area forecast discussion...updated
National Weather Service Upton New York
117 PM EDT Friday Mar 16 2007

Near term (this afternoon and tonight)...snow continues over inland
sections with accumulations of 2-5 inches so far...with a mix of
sleet and snow...occasionally freezing rain across Long Island and
NYC with accumulations generally less than 2 inches except along
portions of the North Shore where 2-3 inches have fallen. Warmer air
moving in aloft this afternoon and tonight ahead of low pressure
moving up the coast will allow precipitation to mix with or change to sleet
and freezing rain...and precipitation could become heavy at times tonight
via strong dynamical forcing. For the morning update did not touch
accumulations too much except over Long Island where lesser amounts
are now expected...but ice accretion from freezing rain and sleet
could still result in very hazardous conditions in Nassau and
northwest Suffolk counties...so the Winter Storm Warning has been
continued there.
