In the August 2004 T-storms that ravaged the area mainly from Newark north and really hit West Chester and Rockland hardest of all there were reports of 3-4" of rain in just over an hour. So it can happen here. Those storms hit the purplish colors (the most extreme) on local TWC radars and had phenomenal constant CTG lightning. They hit around 2PM and the NY Times had a pix of the Whitestone bridge with it's lights on and it looked like 9PM at night, as if it was the last vestiges of dusk before total darkness in the pix.
