Even if there is a change over to a wintry mix, the worst case scenario would still be freezing rain. I say this because the surface temps would still be sub-freezing, so hypothetically, when rain drops make contact with the ground, it would turn to ice. Is that right or am I missing something?

I would think that with a coastal hugger enough warm air would come off the Atlantic to push temps above freezing - maybe 34-36 degrees somewhere in that neighborhood

You don't need much just a couple of degrees would be enough - no one is saying temps will get higher than low to mid 30s on Weds...
