Heaven forbid if a cat 2 or 3 should strike.

"LIPA would need nine full days to fully restore power to the estimated 600,000 customers whose electricity would be knocked out by even the weakest type of hurricane, the utility's officials said Wednesday."

This is no surprise as there were folks without electricity for 2 to 3 weeks during hurricane Gloria. The problem is so many trees falling on wires. It will take along time to get everything back up and running. I think the only way to prevent the problem is get rid of trees. So obviously we will have to live with it.

That is no surprise

I am willing to bet it would be a hell of a lot longer than 9 days.

I had a generator installed last spring,  it's the best thing I ever invested (besides a house) in.  Most of the new homes going up here in Westchester are having generators installed.  A local builder told me a generator is no longer a commodity, it's a necessity in today's homes.

Flooding would only occur about 10 miles from the coast, not to mention LI varies in elevation and has numerous hills.
